Also, the creaking/groaning noise from the rear end is normal, most of the time anyway, there are joints there (can't remember the name) that need to be greased to make the sound stop
Could you find out what this is you're talking about? I don't think I've heard of that, and I haven't grease anything since I've had my car. I've replaced bearings, suspension, and bushings, but I've never been told to grease anything.

In an 88 N/A are the 5th and 6th ports actuated by back pressure from the exhaust? If they are then you may need to worry about that if you go to a straight pipe, no cats, and a free flowing catback. You may not have the back pressure to open the ports. I understand it is only 2 psi that is needed which is very little.
The kit I was looking at ( https://www.racingbeat.com/resultset...rtNumber=16206 ) is designed to work with the 5th & 6th ports - it provides enough backpressure and the required connections to allow those to work properly off the exhaust pressure.

That's good!!! The proper connectors don't mean diddly **** if the back pressure is not there in the first place.

Well, I talked to the guy who worked on it before I had it, and he said the catalytic converter was completely empty. :-) So no worries about it being plugged. I'll probably do plugs & wires this weekend.
