While looking for the root cause of my sloppy shifter if found that the entire shifter spins unrestricted. I pulled the shifter from the extension housing and noticed what seemed to be a worn out nub from a pin that used to hold the shifter in line. My question is , can this pin be replaced? does anyone sell it? do I need to pull the trans to do it? Thanks in advance.

Wow you let that get really bad. these cars eat shifter bushings, you can get all new ones from Mazdatrix. as for the pin i dont know if you get replace it or not. but if you get a short throw shifter kit you may not need that pin anymore as the kit has bushings that raise the fulcrum of the shifter and have their own locating pin

Thanks, good to know. BTW I did not let it get that bad it was the same P.O. that used 5w30 in the motor.

I guess some people shouldn't be allowed within 50 ft of their own cars.

My shifter vibrates really bad. It's a vibration, not a shake. It happens around 2k and up when it's noticable and if you're really on the gas it's almost like a freakin' vibrator! Plus, it makes a rattling noise with my shift **** (Stock) or something. Ugh, could be the bushings. The shifter is a bit loose. How do I go about replacing them? How much do they cost? Should this fix that dumb vibrating problem?

I replaced my 88 with mk1 short shifter and new bushings and it rattles ,mazdatrix has a write up on this issue as well.I guess its like harmonics from rpm at certain speeds.
