Hey guys new to the forum but been around rotaries for 3 years now.

So been surfing forums looking for answers, have not found much help yet. So I blew the engine in my TII about 7 months ago original 168k mile engine. Got a JDM core to rebuild. everything is good new seals, springs etc. Now put engine back in the vehicle, having issues now car is almost un-driveable.

The car is a 87 TII

rebuilt s4 TII jdm motor

s5 turbo and manifold

Rtek 1.8 (just got ecu back from rtek)

Greddy 720cc primaries and secondaries. (all injectors have just been serviced by witch hunter performance.)

RB turbo back

MSD 6A ignition box

Greddy turbo timer

Hallman Manual Boost Controller

All emissions removed

OMP removed running premix

So the issues im having are

1. car will not idle at all.

2. if i hold the the rpms around 2k-3k. It will constantly misfire.

3. Once hot it seems like it constantly floods.

4. Had a weird issue that seemed to fix it self. When first starting the engine i had no tach signal for a period of time. When i pulled the egi inj fuse for a moment the tach signal would come back, but the instant i put the fuse back in the tach signal went dead again. Now I have a constant tach signal. But Im kinda iffy if the issue fixed itself.

What I have tried so far.

1. Changed Leading Coil pack

2. Changed trailing coil pack

3. Removed MSD box

4. Changed CAS

5. Verify Timing

Im starting to point towards my wiring harness. I re-did all the injector wiring and injector ground wire. But im not sure if my solders were good enough. I checked continuity in them and it was fine.

Anyone had any similar experiences or can give some insight.

I don't know anything about the RTEK. Is the fuel map appropriate for the injectors you have? If you're running a stock map with the 720cc primaries, that would have it running mighty rich.

The Rtek adjusts the fuel map so that the 720cc injectors run like 550cc injectors and increases IDC by 5%

sounds kindof like limp mode check the ecu. Did you run it with the mop attached and left on the side(somewere in the engine bay) with block off plate?

mine did the same i had a small leak in my manifold gasket i made a plate to go over the tb elbow like block of plate and threaded a tire pressure gauge and put a valve stem in it pump it up to operating pressure and get out a spray bottle with soap and water. bam youll find your leak.

Check the fuel system pressure. Check your plugs for evidence of problems (carbon, wet, oily, chalky). And keep track of where they came from.

I've heard that intake gaskets may leak. My '87TII doesn't like to idle less than 1100rpm. Also has a slight stumble @3800rpm. I've checked everything except intake gasket. the motor is due for refreshing. I'll recheck everything when I do the refreshing. My other TII will start but won't stay running. I haven't checked anything on it yet.

I had almost an identical problem (as far as symptoms) I took my engine out and waited over a year to replace it. My markings had faded. It ended up I had the fuel injector plugs in the wrong location. Found it by applying 12v at the injector connector and locating it at the ECU with the help of a pin chart and meter.
