I have posted this now on both forums and have yet to get any true help.this is long so be patient.1986 gxl brakes probles,it started out by having this loud ass squell coming from the front.Come to find out the right front caliper had siezed up.I replaced the caliper,front rotors and pads--a.k.a--midas did the work--i could not get the caliper off.Big Mistake--anyway they give me a call and tell me that the car is still making the noise.I get the car change pads ,i got from olympic auto.60.00 for the pads.they were organic ,same thing same noise.I was told to taper the pads,did that.same thing.I got pissed off and put a new preportioning valve on it.--nope.that did not work.I got some new semi metallic pads and new rotors again.tadah!noise was gone--for like 2 weeks--came back just as loud--sqeeeuuullllll could hear me coming blocks away when i got in the brakes.The master cylinder was leaking so that was replaced also both brake hoses.that did nothing.I now have put some brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors on her and new kevlar (green stuff) pads and after i hit the brakes about 5 times there it was ,ear peircing squell.All shims,all springs and anti squell crap is on these brakes and nothing is working.Guys if you have any ideas what this could be please help me out.You will have bank coming.

have you replaced the calipers? that sounds like what your problems is, either that or the calipers are not put on right, ie: certain bolts tighted too far....

Did you have regular (non drilled and/or slotted rotors) on it when the noise started?

stupid questions: are you sure the noise is coming from the front? is the pad hardware in good shape? what do you use to clean the wheels with?



to start fixing it i would recommend new factory pads and resufaced stock style rotors, with new hardware

overtorqued calipers.....either that or its the rears...all squealing comes from the pads and calipers..not masters



put about 30ft/lb on the bolts

read again I said YOU, not midas. anyhow I think its the calipers.

When you got the new rotors, were they ground with a random pattern or were they machined very smooth? If they are too smooth when the pads are new, the pads will glaze and squeal after only a few moderate stops.



Give this a try-

Take the old rotors (non-drilled) and take a DA sander or orbital sander with some 60 grit on it and run it all over the braking sufrace. Then spray them down with brake-clean. Now do the same thing with the pads but you won't have to push on them too much as you just wnat to ruff up the surface- wear a dust mask!



Put it all together and only make light stops from abotu 20mph for the first 2-3 stops (to make sure the brakes are OK. do this within about 1 min of each other), then do a few (3-4) 40mph moderate stops( 2 min interval) , followed by 2 good 55mph stops. Then park the car and let it cool for at least an hour. This should bed your Green Pads. This is what i do for the Hawk and Willwood pads I run and I have never had a problem.



BTW keep a VERY close eye on the GreenStuff pad as they wear quickly (as in 1/2 day at track!).

the noise for sure is coming from the front not the back.And yes all hard ware is in good shape.I deglazed 2 diffent set of rotors the ones from midas and another set of wagners that i got.that did nothing.When the weather calms down and i can work in less than 8 inches of snow,im going to take the pads off hit them up with some sand paper and hit the rotors up .I noticed something yesterday while looking at the rotors,the pads both sides dont look like there seeded right,both rotors have 3 separate marks on them like the pads are not making full contact--there marking in the bottom,the middle and the top but not a full contact.---wierd????????

all brakes squeal, it's the way they work, it's just a matter of wether it is audible or not... the friction of the pad on the rotor causes vibrations, if theres nothing to dampen the vibrations you'll have an audible squeal.



sometimes you will notice slowing down with a person walking their dog nearby will freak out the dog, even if your brakes are silent as far as you know... the dog can still hear it.



now... to eliminate squeal, there are a few things that can be done, theres a damper that is often used on the pads that is basically a metal plate, thin, often coated with a rubber layer. This is there to dampen and prevent squealing. This usually works pretty well, if it is not present, it will likely squeal more than it would have otherwise. There are also some spray on adhesives which can do the same thing (dampen), they can be found at most auto parts stores. When I worked at CarX anti-sieze was used on all metal<->metal mating surfaces, like the hardware, the backing pad/damper, and external pins/slots. Any moving parts that involved rubber seals like internal pins or slots were lubed with a silicone based brake lubricant (anti-sieze will mess things up here). I never had a car come back with a squealing problem while I worked there, all you generally have to do is make sure everything is clean, lube everything properly with anti-sieze and/or silicone brake lube... and in some cases use the damper/adhesive spray on stuff or just the included damper plate between the pads and the caliper/piston.
