ive recently purchased a non turbo 90 gxl rx-7,i dont know a whole lot about the car yet but a buddy told me to watch out for the apex seals,he said they could go at any time from carbon buildup on the rotors?is this true,if it is i dont think ill keep the car too much longer,how much are they too fix?what happens when they go out? thanks for the answers

This is true to an extent. The common belief that rotaries apex seals are weak are why many people dont buy the cars, but the fact is that the rotary is just as reliable as any other car...you just have to maintain it. If that '90 rx7 has over 150K miles on it...then yes, I'd be a little concerned about carbon build up...other then that..just take it out for a few 7K to 9K RPM runs and it'll burn off the excess carbon real quick

If the APEX seals go, its time for a rebuild which you can do yourself for about $1200.

thats kewl,thanks man i was kinda worried,my buddy normally knows his **** about cars,it only has 66,000 miles on it pretty much mint condition,ill keep it now,but what happens when they go out and how much to fix,would i say have to pull the motor to replace them? i bought 2 books on rx-7s and im reading them from cover to cover and constantly reading stuff on the net, i knew about rotary's but never imagined i would own one,now i do ,lol
