Looking at buying an 88 rx7 n/a...

Guy says it has a fresh rebuild, but it has "running issues." The problem is that it won't idle. He says it will start and run while you are pressing the gas, but dies idling. He also said it had low compression "due to the rebuild."

Any thoughts on what it might be ?

He wants 650 bucks...

see if the screw on top of the tb is out all the way if it is then it should run if it has more then 500 on the rebuild then it should be down a little and the oil should have been changed if the rebuild has less then 500 miles and the screw isnt all the way up then unscrew it till its all the way up and then try starting if its still not then check for loose grounds

I actually have not seen the car in person yet, trying to determine if it's worth looking at.

The car WILL start and run, as long as you push the gas. It WON'T idle if you let off. That is what I was told.

My EGI has the same issues at the moment, has the car still got the air pump attached?

Most times when it runs with gas, but won't idle, it's a vacuum leak.

Not to sure. I have not seen the car in person, trying to see if it's worth the drive.

Sounds like the bac valve could be bad as that controls idle air flow, or the throttle plates are misadjusted. Usually if a rotary has poor compression it will flood when starting weather or not you press the gas. I would go ahead and check it out as idle issues can be solved pretty easily.

2nd gen cars are very fun to drive. if you want to drive like the wind and not worry about fuel economy.... the TII is your car. I own an 87 TII. Roadrace an 83 gsl. The TII with stock suspension; handles better than the race car. Independent rear suspension. I've also heard that the vacuum leak could be the intake manifold gasket. Good luck with your purchase!
