so i have had an opportunity to drive both back to back recently heres my thoughts.

blaze red 1991 mazda rx7 coupe:

its a nice car, it handles well, the odometer reads 210,163miles, and its had a raditor and a clutch. it is fricking slow though, we were racing a 91 civic vx and the fc pulls on it at the top end by a car length or two. the honda gets 58mpg, they both had 200,000miles.

verdict: i had an s4 na years ago and it was nice, but the 89 na was a mistake, they should have all been turbo.

I agree...

BUT...

By 1989 or '90, the RX-7 was pretty pricey next to its competition. In spite of the performance advantage, many more n/a's than turbos were sold. The FD was an awesome performer, but the resulting price jump (and reliability issues) is what killed FD sales in the states.

yeah thats true too. my 1991 na would have stickered for $22k, the fd's were $32 in 92 and almost $40 in 95. way too much for a mazda.

no ****.... I was reading last night in the new Sport Compact mag about the value and current prices of the last gen Supra. It turns out there were only I believe 4000 Supras sold in North America from 93-98 that had both the turbo set up and 6 speed manual.

They were saying a decent used 93-95 TT 6 speed should be around $15-20K, yet everytime I see them for sale its close to original sticker price! I know they are very rare and great cars though but damn.

Turbo II 10-23-2002 12:19 PM

some cars still hold their value. thats all i gotta say

I agree and with that said, you 10th AE guys should hold onto them... is the 10th AE the rarest RX7 sold in the states??

Also, with that article, they were getting more at the blue book comparison to what the car is actually worth to an enthusiast. For example, if only 4000 of that specific Supra were sold throughout its 6 year production, an enthusiast may pay up to double the blue book which makes me wonder how exactly they are determining blue book value.... I guess they are not taking into consideration the # produced and sold??

there are tons of rare* rx7's

the 78's, have no passenger mirror, the hood prop on the wrong side etc

theres the 80 limited, it had leather, and ugly paint and wheels

the 83 limited edition, bbs wheels, special seats, different color

84-85 gsl-se; best car they made until the miata

86-87 sport package; big brakes no sunroof

88 gtu: its a sport package with turbo mirrors and seats

88 10ae, it looks like someone took a t2 to maaco and had them mask off the glass. i dont care how rere it is its still an 88 t2

89-90 gtus: see 88 gtu

any fd: they are rarer than gsl-se's

* rare does not mean its worth anything

A 1988 Mustang GT stickered for $15,900, LX 5.0 was even cheaper.

Is it any wonder they sold so many and are still the best selling car in its class? Even if you HATE them you got to admit at least they didnt price them out of people's reach.

Turbo II 10-23-2002 04:18 PM

no not rare, just limited. or hard to get a hold of. u can buy a civic anywhere, looking for a decent 7 is a hard thing to do. ive been looking at about 10 cars in the past 2 weeks and im looking into cars that still hold value. 95 4 door gsr 13,000 come on now thats a **** load of money for a 95. its cause the 4 doors no one wants to let go of cause they know they'll use it even when they have their family.

BTW i think im just rambling as usual

Rob x-7 10-23-2002 04:19 PM

For some reason those 12cyl BMWs didnt go over well. The 850 was a even bigger bomb then the 750.

I know the owner of one of the marinas bought a 850 new and got it about $20,000 UNDER sticker back in the day, thats how bad the dealers were trying to get rid of them.

I've often said, one of the few cars that I'd want more than an FD is the BMW 850iL with a manual transmission. Now that's a rare beast! The 8-series is right up there with the FD as far as looks are concerned.

Those 850's were pretty cool cars, except for the price.
I've often said, one of the few cars that I'd want more than an FD is the BMW 850iL with a manual transmission. Now that's a rare beast! The 8-series is right up there with the FD as far as looks are concerned.
I once saw a yellow one on an auto transporter by my house 5 years ago. It also looked like it had been made into a convertible. I guess there are people even more nuts than us. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The 850 was a even bigger bomb then the 750.

I know the owner of one of the marinas bought a 850 new and got it about $20,000 UNDER sticker back in the day, thats how bad the dealers were trying to get rid of them.

they are really heavy too

Ahh, you people worry about weight too much. The only thing I don't want to be heavy is a girl. Everything else is fine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
heavy things=work. work=bad

mike
I don't mind moving heavy objects. It's fun.
