I had this lip on my coupe, then on my vert. It was kind of ugly looking from some previous repairs which were there when I bought it.
I removed it and have smoothed it out, I slightly changed some things on it, this is some high build primer, im going to sand that smooth, then spray black gelcoat on the part. Sand and polish that and make a mold and pull a few extra lips for some locals. Some call it a demonspeed lip, but the guy I got the car from called it a Mike Lamonica lip, which was a forum member who used to make them. on the coupe and the vert http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/807-1/HPIM0579.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/2331-1/DSC02418.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3185-1/lippro%20001.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3188-1/lippro%20002.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3191-1/lippro%20003.jpg |
looks dope!
|
I like it. I'm in Jersey once a year. Save me one.
Also, what front bumper is that on the 'vert? |
both bumpers look to be stock S5...
|
how much you want for one? be nice to have around for a future t2
kevin. |
I will make a few and see if any sell
Meanwhile I test fit it quick on my s4 bumper. When using the existing holes in the lip it leaves it too far forward. Im going to go ahead and make my mold from the lip as-is. When I pull the plug from the mold I am going to modify it so that it fits on my s4 bumper. I believe with re-drilling some holes and moving it back I only have to alter the lip in 2 places which should be really simple. Then I will test fit it and maybe make another mold. http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3194-1/s4fit%20002.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3197-1/s4fit%20003.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3200-1/s4fit%20004.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3203-1/s4fit%20005.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3206-1/s4fit%20006.jpg |
I got both sides glassed up, wont get back on this until Monday, I did this so that the end can be trimmed to where it needs to go, it was a little short from the fender line so now the end installer can trim it to where it needs to be

I like it on a s4, the ones that are still around for them look like junk.
I would try that but I am not very talented with fiberglass. |
glass is more my thing
|
How much are you thinking for a finished product, in primer?
|
I dont know yet, dont even know if I want to bother with shipping them around unless I can figure out a easy packing.
|
I'd love one of those. First pic (of the coupe) btw looks truly awesome. Good tasteful mod for those of us who don't want a gaudy kit from Japan which is unfortunately most of them.
|
it seems the deciding factor if it fits a s4 or a s5 are the holes, would people care if they had to drill thier own holes?
Im thinking this is the only way I would bother selling them, I cant be bothered with someone thinking a lip made in my spare time will fit every single 20 year old RX7 out there, but if you drill your own holes then you are good to go. |
I looked into some boxes today.
When I got my lip it came in a huge heavy box which must have cost $15-$20, which is another reason why I paid almost $60 in shipping. I found I can buy 2 smaller boxes and sleeve them together which makes it much more economical because now I can pay about $6 per lip for a box. For now I might also grab some boxes from the local bike shop. First I need to make some parts, lol |
My black gelcoat was a bit lumpy, so I ended up using some gray duratec instead. I did a quick test fit and Im pretty happy with it for a S4 bumper.
The passenger side could use a little tweak but I think that is something with my car because the lip was previously slitted across the top so that it could be moved in and out, I have glassed it for the time being so that its stable when im making the mold from it. You can see the slit in previous pictures. You can now see how it extends past the fender, this will allow me to trim it where I want it, before it was short of the fender. Tomoroww starts the mold making process, with any luck maybe I can make one by the end of the week. Once the mold is made then its easy going from there. http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3236-1/lipmod22.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3233-1/lipmod2%20009.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3230-1...%20006_001.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3224-1/lipmod2%20005.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3221-1/lipmod2%20004.jpg |
I wouldnt give a damn if I had to drill my own holes....
Shoot me a price, I have always wanted a s5 lip on my s4 but everywhere you can buy them new is way over priced..... |
I need a local volunteer to test fit the lip for me.
Im going to try it on my vert but right now I dont have the car here and wont have it until the end of the week. Someone local I can test fit this clamping it in place, the only thing is when you remove your factory lip you might break the rusty bolts holding it in place, I will have new hardware for this should it happen. |
I got some time to play with this again, got the plug polished and started the waxing/mold release.
Hopefully I get to make the mold this week. http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3335-1/wl+003.jpg |
Damn that looks really good. Nice work. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif
|
hey carlos you decide to make your way over here and post finally
|
first coat of tooling gelcoat is on, should have the mold finished this week, then I will probably put a good 10 coats of wax on the mold before trying to pull a lip off it next week.
When I put these up for sale next week $25 from the sale of every lip will go to nopistons.com to assist in paying for the server http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3353-1/tg+002.jpg |
so what year are these going to fix and how much are you charging?
|
they fit both s4 and s5.
Im waiting until I make them to see how long it actually takes but Im thinking $125 sounds reasonable, I know I wont re-coup the mold cost but oh well. they will be gelcoat, hand laid fiberglass and flexible resin. |
Mold is finished, going to let it cure overnight, then release it from the plug, trim it and start waxing so that I can pull some parts from it.
Will have a nice shot of the mold tomoroww after its popped and trimmed. http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3392-1/lipmold+001.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3395-1/lipmold+002.jpg |
Got the mold waxed and even managed to pull one from the mold. I used flexible resin and I am pretty happy with the amount of flex in the part. I can put more but I dont think I want too flimsy.
Used good quality glass too, 3/4 oz, 1.5oz, and 7oz, extra 1.5 along the radius area. In a little bit Im going to clamp it up to my coupe that has a S4 bumper on it and take another picture. http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3401-1/cl+002.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3404-1/cl+022.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3407-1/cl+023.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3410-1/cl+024.jpg http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/3413-1/cl+025.jpg |
