Hi,just picked a 1988 red turbo ,i have read a lot of posts here and have diagnosed some of my cars problems.so far i have the problem with the wiper switch ,only works in low speed only. sunroof not operating ,radio and cassette do not work but the cd player works and also have a slopy shifter .i also had a problem with the power steering after driving it for a couple of days all the fluid came out .i found the leak in 1 of the tubes that are in front of the radiator. I cut out the peice where it was leaking and was going to put 2 compression fittings on it but the tubing is 10 millimeter ,i could only find 3/8 fittings just a little to small.I put some rubber hose on it for now with some clamps ,will this hold .I was told if this is a return line it would be okay, does anybody know if this a return line.anyway other than that the car runs good and fast .the car has leather grey leather interior in good condition the paint was very faded ,i had it buffed out ,much better now not great but good enough.I will post some pics when i get a chance.

Yo congrats on your new car. I had the same problem with the powersteerinmg fluid. I took robs advice and took a rubber hose and put like 3 clamps on it and no more leak. yeah these cars have electrical demons lol. Congrats and welcome.

Sounds like you're on the right track, fixing the current problems before trying to upgrade stuff. Get those shifter bushings replaced, it's an easy fix and makes a world of difference.

About shifter bushings... Mine isn't particularly sloppy, but it's often hard to hit 3rd and even 4th sometimes. I find that I need to be quite deliberate, which isn't always a good thing, like at the strip.

Where's the best place to get new bushings? Is anything available that's "better than stock?"

I have a slightly-used set (I can't see any wear) if you want it cheap, that I got from the dealer a couple years back. I recently put new ones in because they came with the short shifter, from mazdatrix.

Please, go right ahead. It'll be a little while until I get around to it.

Is the short shifter nice and slick?

Thanks for all the info, and replies .If anyone needs the shifter bushings ,get them from mazdatrix like someone said in the post .they are about $10.00 for the set ,i bought the top set from ebay and paid 24.00 and i still need the bottom set .I wish i found this site earlier,i would have had the complete set and saved some money .
