Well I dropped the engine in this weekend and finished everything up today. I turned the key and after a few cranks it started right up! Unfortunately it idled at about 6 grand and within a few seconds steam started pumping out of the engine bay from a hose I had neglected to clamp on the rear housing. So after about 15 seconds or running I shut it off and attended to the hose. Unfortunately I couldn't get it started after that. It cranked well, but wouldn't turn over. I figured it was flooded. I cleaned the plugs off and tryed it again, but still no go. Oh well, I will check it out tomorrow during the day. I do have a couple of questions though:

I left my sleeves out, would this cause it to flood more easily? I don't know why it would but my old 86 never flooded on me.

Also with the timing, do you think it should be adjusted any do to the porting? I have not messed with the timing on the Mazda so I don't know much about it. Thanks, and wish me luck!

Sweet! Hope you are driving it tomorrow!

That makes two of us!

******* A! I checked it this morning and found a few hoses I had forgot to hook up. I also adjusted the choke cable a bit, I had messed with it and it was causing the super high idle. The sucker turned over and ran good! It idled at around 1500 though with an up and down idle about 3-400 rpm. I think I have a slight exhaust leak at the upper pipe. Other than that the car ran good: good oil pressure, didn't overheat and clutch felt good. The idle stopped surging a few times, but not for long.

Any suggestions on the surging idle?

Any ways I am happy the sucker runs, yokattane!

surging idle is tps?

I tightened up the exhaust and messed around with it a bit and it ran pretty good. It still idled at around 1500 but would hold it until you gave it some gas and then surge a little bit. Unfortunatley one of the o-rings started to fail on one of my secondary injectors spewing gas all over the engine so I had to stop until I fix it.

I will focus on the tps, thanks. I was wondering if I could get the o-rings at the parts store, or are they a factory thing?

Anyways after being on blocks for about 4 1/2 months I finally got to drive it up the rode. It wasn't pretty with the surging idle, but it still felt good.

As long as the auto parts store sells o-rings fit for gasoline then you can use them.

Holy crap, I can't believe I spelled "road" like that. I guess I was tired or something.

Sounds good on the o-rings, I will make sure I specify that they will be in contact with gasoline. My brother suggested I go to the Harley shop if I can't find one. He said they use lots of o-rings on their bikes and would probably have what I was looking for.

I will snap some pics tomorrow, its kind of dirty right now.

The 6 port sleves shouldn't cause any leaking of the injectors but may cause a leaner mixer at lower RPM's. I would think the Factory ECU could deal with it.

After much Fing around... I finally removed my sleves this weekend. I also removed the rods that actuated them. The results: A slight loss of low RPM power but it pulls hard from 5-8K

If I can get the NOS jets I need I'm going to try the 1/4 mile this weekend.

isamu: Do you have a G-tech? I'm curious to know what kind of power you are putting out?

The 1500 RPM you should be able to adjust, The repair books talk about the A/F screw on the top but there is also an adjustment for the throttle stop on the back side of the Throttle Body. Also any air leaks will create a higher idle.
