is a torque wrench necessary? and what would I use as a substitute for the damper wrench?

and banzai, I would accept your offer...let me know what I have to do... patrick.keeney@fwc.state.fl.us

you dont need a torque wrench, and you can use a crescent wrench

got my upper/lower manifold gasket today. upon inspection, I noticed that one side is smooth and kinda glossy, while the other is dull and slightly textured. does it matter which way it goes?

j9fd3s 02-07-2003 01:04 PM

if it does i have no idea which way is right. the holes may only line up one way though

yeah, I thought of that, but it seems symmetrical...I guess I'll just see, I'm sure it's not that big of a deal (2 months later my body is found among flaming wreckage...)

You might as well take off the lower man too, take the port sleeves out, clean and polish them up and put in a set of pineapple inserts for $50... improve flow pretty good throught the 5/6 ports. You could send the injectors to RC too for a good clean/balance job for another $100 (2 day turnaround time).

just some thoughts since you'll be in there anyhow...

haha, theres 2 schools of thought

1. replace the part thats bad

2. replace the part thats bad and any other stuff you can while you have access to them.

3. restore the whole car from the ground up.

1. would replace the damper, and the uim to lim gasket

2. would replace the damper, the lower intake gasket, clean out the intake/6 ports, change the injector o rings, and the hoses going to the tb

3. well everything is new/rebuilt/cleaned/plated
