I want closer ratio gears in my NA, it looks like theres alot of interchangability between these RWD mazdas. Looking at the miata 6 speed gear ratios it looks like it might be a good match for a built high revving (10k) NA with 4.1 rear end. I wonder how difficult it will be to slap this into my car. Anyone have any experience with this?

the 5 speed mitia boxes fit... I don't know about the 6 speed ones. if they did they would be alot weaker.

will the miata 5 speed even bolt up to the stock driveshaft on a second gen?

Scott 89t2 09-13-2002 10:45 PM

no, you take the gears and insides of the miata box, and stick it inside the FC housing.

ok, i had know clue, 6 speed would be nice if it would hold up under abuse :bigok:

scroll to bottom, in italics:

The sedan is meant to compete with the new Lexus IS300 and is said to be use a all-new double wishbone suspension and the 6-speed manual transmission Mazda first used in the 10th Anniversary Miata. (and from inspecting the 6-speed from the Miata which was in our shop recently, it was obviously designed to handle more power than the Miata was pushing through it. Our guess is that the transmission was actually designed for these new 200+ HP rotary cars.)

I read elsewhere that the miata 5 and 6 speed will bolt right up to the rotary, I believe you just have to get the correct flywheel+clutch for the miata/6 speed. Now, the question is, will the flywheel bolt up to a rotary AT counterweight? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png Maybe if you get a miata 6 speed aluminum flywheel from someone like racing beat (if they make one?)

I'm heavily considering this modification, lemme know if any of you guys do it and run into any problems, or know of anything that would go wrong.

cheers

Pineapple does this conversion for under a 1000, Banzaitoyota had this done @ Pineapple and said he was pleased w/ it. IMO id do that before put some mini-miata parts in your ride.

Instead of buying the TV you could have made a downpayment https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
