it might have had some kind of oil pressure failure, or maybe it clogged a passage, or the strainer or something

maybe oil pump failure...what pressure was your gauge showing? Even though half the time they don't work right!

I had a huge pile of bearing chunks in my last engine when the front stationary gear bearing came appart boosting 1.7 on my T70.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png The new oil was the prettiest color of yellow/gold with tons of gold metal flake.. I think a FD would look pretty damn cool painted like that..

O' mine was so bad that all the rotor tips on the front rotor actually made contact with the rotor housing and made both the front and rear rotor tips come in contact with the side plates... It pretty much went like why does my car feel slower today as they were trying to seize then POOF! bearing came the **** apart.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

When I bought the car I was told it had a rebuilt engine put in 40k miles ago. Then I put maybe another 15k on the car before the engine went. But everything was rigged on the car when I bought it, so I'm not too sure if I belive it only had 40k on it. The car was driven pretty hard some of the time I owned it, but it was well maintained too.

Was it an atkins engine? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683621.gif

Yeah, if they didn't get oil, even if it was only briefly, that coulda definetly been the cause.

Sell the gold and you'll be rich.....When you take it apart I am sure you will find more suprises!

ILUVMY88CABRIO 07-26-2003 12:43 PM

I'm not too sure if it was from Atkins or not. I didn't put it in. But it could be, since Atkins is about 45 min away. Do they mark their engines in anyway?

The oil pressure would always read kinda low, but I just figured the gauge/sending unit was fucked up since it is such a common problem. I never got around to getting an aftermarket gauge.

I pulled the front cover, and front counterweight, and there are a few fucked up peices there. I'll take a few pics later today. Also the tips of the rotor(s) are nice and rounded off from rubbing on the housing. lol!

Cabrio I had the same problem with my oil smelling like gas really bad and tried everything I could to fix it. It turned out that I had leaky/stuck injectors. If I were you I'd think about buying new injectors before I start the new motor. Most of the time when you get a motor replaced the companies wil just re-use your current injectors that have a lot of miles on them and can cause a lot of problems. When your oil smells like fuel it is contaminated and loses its lubricating properties. Good luck with the rest of the tear down and new motor.

Well i put in all new bearings and bought a O-ring kit and I had everything else ie. rotor, oil pump etc, a press, the bearing press tools etc, so about $250-300
