Hi, I am new here but hardly new with rx7's or automotive.

I bought a rebuilt master cylinder and the reservoir will not seat completely. I am worried about breaking the reservoir... but, I have basically put all my body weight on it while wiggling it back and forth and still, Nothing! I can force one side down to almost flat but it wont seat and as i try forcing the other side it will pop back up again.

I lubed it with break fluid, checked down inside the master cylinder with a phillips (to see if it was straight) it stays about a 1/4 inch away from seating.

am I missing something? is it defective? has anyone run into this problem before? is anyone there?

It's been years since I did mine. I recall that it was tight. Very tight. Not sure how I got it seated, but I was having the same concerns as you. I know that isn't much help. Anybody else?

but there is no one that knows the answer to this?

my car has been down for 2 days now and i put lil bruises on the palm of my hand from pushing down the master cylinder!

i did one on another vehicle, i don't remember what is was.... maybe a Toyota? anyway.. i had to put it in a large vise to keep the pressure even on it as i pressed them together. Just be careful to not crush it... (i know, easier said than done)

I did one on my FC. It ended up sitting crooked, cocked slightly at an angle. I eventually called it quits and left it like that.

Ok, just for a follow up,

I ended up taking the old mastercylinder apart and found the biggest point of the problem...

no matter how much pressure you apply the rubber grommet will get squished between the master cylinder and the reservoir!

the only way that I found to seat it! was to use very light preassure and a whole lot of wiggling back and forth and side to side if possible... it takes awhile to get it to seat! but with the new grommets it's pretty much on there for good! LOL

(just go into it with the idea that your not going to force it down... you have to move it mm by mm kinda like a snake crawling)

I dont think it's normal for them to be this tight... I honestly think I would crack the reservoir trying to get it off again.

(its almost like it was bolted on now)
