I made a mistake. I posted this question on the 'other' forum and did not get a good response, so let me ask the veterans here;
What is the difference between the s4 and s5 N/A clutches? The diameters are the same and i thought the trannys were too. Well, if i had an 86-88 engine and tranny with 89+ rotors and flywheel which one should i use? |
If your using the s5 flywheel, I'd go w/ the s5 clutch. I don't think that a s4 tranny will have much trouble dealing with that....just be sure to use the correct throwout bearing, etc that comes w/ the new clutch. From what I can see, my s5 T2 tranny and my s4 NA tranny look a lot a like as far as clutches, input shaft, etc would be concerned.

The stock 86-88 clutches are 240mm, the 89-92's are 235mm - don't ask us why. All performance clutches we offer for 86-92 Turbo's are 240mm This is what mazdatrix says in their website about turbo clutches. http://www.mazdatrix.com/f86-92tb.htm So i'm guess this might be the deal with the N/A clutches. Try calling mazdatrix. C |
Well, I thought the only difference could be the number of splines. can you verify that rotaryman88? I am almost certain the diameters are all 225mm.

Well the mazdatrix site lists the same pressure plate for s4 and s5 aftermarket clutches. The discs are different, so i am guessing the s5 one is sturdier and not much else.

S4 clutch since you are using a S4 tranny right ?
|
I can check the splines tom(night now)...but I dunno if that'll figure out an answer since one is a t2 and the other is an NA, but I'll check...I'll take some up close pics too if you think it will help...

Yup, I have the 89+ flywheel and front counterweight. So what is the consensus opinion, s4 or s5 clutch?
