Exclamation

I live in NYC and am new to this type of information gathering. But have run out of places to go. I have a 1988 RX7 Convertible with a need for lots of TLC. I am the person to give it... I just don't know what to do first. The car is current stored in my garage and is in diar need of a new exhaust system, except the prior owner put on a header and some type of exhaust replacements to eliminate the catalyc converter and put on a flow through instead. The problem is it keeps blowing out all over the place, no matter what I fix, there is another. The system needs to be replaced, any suggestions? All aftermarket exhausts seem to sell CAT Back systems, I need something from the header back and this is tough. Second question, my car suffers from the "won't start" after running it hard problem. Only way to get it started is PUSH... been in some pretty wierd situations, and only way to get it started was to push. Smells flooded and no matter what I do, wont start, so we push it an pop the clutch. I understand that this is a common problem in the older RX7's, 13R type engine. Any suggestions? Should I replace the entire carburator system? Big bucks... any thoughts? Lastly, the car is always hot in the compartment, it must be from the header and the exhaust, I read that it is 4 time the temperature as a regular exhaust.... what can be done to reduce the heat. I am told putting a standard exhause back on the car will be over $1500. Any thoughts... I have lots more questions... but this is all for now... thanks to those who respond.... JTRX7

my suggestion would be to bring it to either www.rx7s.com T&R racing in NY. or another shop in NJ which is backed up. T&R can easily make you a custom exhaust and figure out what's going on with your no start situation might be low compression engine but who knows. best bet is to have it checked by a rotary shop. if you have any more questions i will help

Your 13b is carbureted ? Why don't you just go to a muffler shop and get the piping replaced. It's not that expensive to do that. About the hot engine compartment, isn't that because rotaries just produce more heat than pistons ?
