Baldy and I are going to look at a 90 n/a vert. It has 150,000 miles and is stock. Previous owner put in new clutch, roof and exhaust. A friend of ours who had it before this guy said that it had good compression. So is there anything that we need to know or look out for?https://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal..._120_36997.jpghttps://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal..._120_11845.jpghttp://www.nopisthttps://www.nopisto..._120_10085.jpghttps://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal...4_120_1093.jpgons.com/forums/gallery/tn_gallery_3374_120_9445.jpg[/IMG]

sorry i am not to good at the whole pic thing but thats it
|
Cant see well from the pics but it looks good. I cant really think of any vert specific things to look at except the top leaking but other than that its all the same. Baldy should have an idea by now.
|
none of the pics were real good. none of the inside, but it looks nice,
|
Turns out that the compression check thing was the 10ae, not the vert, but it supposedly drives well with no smoke. He said it was originally red, and someone painted it blue. That's my main concern at the moment, but I'm remaining optimistic.

why was it painted blue? if its just cause it was faded then thats ok i guess, but if its cause it was in a big wreck that might not be ok. look closely |
ok, I'll be sure to look underneath, and pay attention to all the structure under the hood and around the front bumper.
Did any verts come in blue? |

Did any verts come in blue? yep, any coupe color came on a vert |
Well, as your aware, I would get a compression test done. Not that the test is a sure sign of a good engine in a rotary, but it will give you some indication. On the verts check out the end links, rear suspension. As they are heavier the links have a tendency to collapse and you will get more camber than normal. Just take a look at the rear wheels. Rest just the same as coupe, trans, clutch, cooling system reservoir for water color and all accessories.
Good Luck |
Seems to me the common thread with these 7s is A) the compression. Seems nobody can determine when the apex seals are going to fail. B) The water seals. If they are bad (which alot seem to be) it won't withstand a pressure test on the coolant system. Since to apex thing can't be tested I would at least test the coolant system. This is somthing that CAN be tested and will help you determine the real value of the car.

if the seats are in good shape.. thats a plus.. they are $$$$, leaks.. sonce these fuckers are heavier the suspension may be a tad saggy.. like mine.. looks lowered.. but on take off the rear noticably dips.. haha.. my car was only serviced at dealers for the first 138k miles.. but now at 160k the engine is beggining to smoke.. so that means rebuild soon.. (or T2 swap cuz mike is gonna be generous and let me have his) one ftp is gone.. on it.. which is a common thing people do cuz they think it helps with the air.. so the car maybe have be pushed a tad hard..
BUT DAMN.. VERTS ARE FUN!!!! |
My sis has a Mustang Convertible.. like 2003.. and she loves how in my vert you get no turbulence..

a) the rotor housing/apex seal wear to each other, so compression stays high for a long time unlike a piston which starts losing compression the second you start it b) a healthy cooling system is important. unfortunately any 20year old water seal is gonna be weak just from age. most of the na's i see die from water seals, although these things run long enough (200k+) its usually a toss up between the oil seals, water seals and the apex seals..... |

before we even got home, I stopped by my friend's house, and obtained an s5 vert taillamp assembly, an ftp lens, and a side marker light that it needed ($270 total). Paint is decent, it's a non-factory blue. Lots of orange peel texture, but some waxing/buffing and it will look real nice. Fog lights work, seat speakers work, black boot included. Top is NEW (vinyl). Exhaust is NEW (catback, anyway). Sirius-ready cd player, 10" sub +amp, we stole this car at $1,800.

Thats a steal of a deal for $1800! I paid $6000+ for mine and it was in about the same condition. That carpet looks like it's in great condition too, take care of it, and let me know if you want to have the seats re-done, I have a company that can get them done with good quality at a decent price.
|
I drove it all the way back from Macon. It was so much fun. I feel like we robbed the guy blind!!!
|
yeah $1800 is a great deal! if the blue looks in person like it does in the pics then its a sweet car!
|
congrats
|
congrats.. looks sexy..
|
So because I'm in a special section (according to my insurance folks) of being under 25, married, and using the car for low miles (estimated under 7500 yearly) insurance is $222 every 6 months. If I get full coverage on this nice, clean vert, it's $314 every 6 months, with a $500 deductible.
Is it worth it to get full coverage on this car? Is it as just as easy and cheap to find parts as it is with the FC coupe? |
Sounds like you are getting a great deal. i have an 88 vert and got an offer for 3500 on it. with the paint job make sure its not that crap mako paint (spelling??) Ive dealt with that before, you have to wax it once a week or the paint looks like crap and you have to buff it again. with the top leaking you shouldnt have problems. If it is leaking by the windows all you have to do is pull the door panel off and there are adjustments.
|
You'll have so much fun with that car. Verts are great. Mine is so much fun!! I can run with top down or with the A/C on its great. Mine is white exactly like 75 Repu with the exception that his is probably running.
The new top is a real plus. That top looks so nice and supple. The seats are next if the machanical is nice. Leatherseats.com Yes, you stole that car! |
