After I washed my car today I took it for a spin and when I first applied my brakes nothing happened they did not engage. It was like something was blocking them for about 2 seconds and then bang, they engaged and locked up. After that they worked fine, no problems and I haven't had any problems with them before. I was figuring probably just wet, but usually wet brakes will lock up right away where as this didn't lock up until after a few seconds of depressing the pedal. Thanks

when i'd bring my car to the touchfree wash my brakes would barely work first few stops afterwards, rotors covered with soapy water... it's probably nothing if your brakes are working fine now and you have the car wash event to associate with the problem.

 

Any time you press the brake on your car and nothing happens; you should inspect every component of the system! There may be numerous reasons why you had no brake, but you do not want that situation reoccurring at the wrong time. It may be nothing major but you should definitely check the system.

stuck caliper slides....

Well I checked out the front calipers and I think I found the problem. The passenger side caliper mounting bolt, the one on the top that the caliper sits on had a bit of play in it. The Caliper itself slid right up and off with no problem, whereas the drivers side was solid and I had to use a screw driver to pry the caliper up. Does the entire caliper assembley have to be replaced or can the stud and bushing be replaced? It looks like the entire caliper will need it to me, but I am not sure. Also if I replace the caliper can I plug in some 4 piston ones instead, or will the calipers not fit on the 4-lug? The price between the calipers was not much so I figured it would be a good time to upgrade. Thanks

 

it's generally serviceable/replaceable. Often times the hardware kit will come with new o rings, dust boots, and any other wear items in the brakes that arent pads or rotors... something sticking like that is pretty common and won't usually keep the brake from working at all, in my experiences. They just cause uneven wear on the pads / rotors, and will drag on the rotors because the parts are not moving freely. Every car on the street here in IL gets these problems in the winter months especially, snow&salt makes everything turn to ****.

 

Thanks everybody. I ended up ordering some remanufactured calipers, new pads and am going to have the rotors turned tomorrow. I have had some vibrations under hard braking so hopefully this will solve that :bigthumg:
