alright so i finally got off my lazy *** and decided to time the car and see if that helped. the leading timing mark was in inch out time!!! so i got it straight and it ran beautifully. and when tightening up the nut to hold the CAS down it snapped the stud. so i had to pull out the CAS. i lined up the first timing mark (leading) at TDC. pulled the CAS out, and looked in the FSM wich isnt vary detailed on it. all it says is to "match the mating mark and instal the crank angle sensor on the front housing". and i was guessing the little raised ridge on the bottom of the CAS body, right ubove the gear was the mark, and the hole thats in the gear is the other makr you line up. so i lined up the hole in the gear with the little raised line on the CAS body. tooke it out for a drive and it doesnt really buck... but just... well sounds like a car out of time. what the hell. oh and yes i secured the CAS back down with some JB weld, my best freind. and it didnt move one bit. the timing mark is dead on with the timing light set at 5degress advance and clip on leading #1 coil. but it runs like **** like its out of time!!!?? did i put the CAS in wrong?

dont get me wrong here, jb weld is some really good stuff. here is my question to you now, how are you going to remove the cas if needed and how are you goin to move it incase you need to retime it. also when you checked your timing did you loop the green service check plug and ground the single wire green plug? that will make a differance when timing the car. with out grounding and looping thoughs 2 plugs the timing will not adjust , the pcm will override your adjustments, well on s5s it does so i asume on s4s this holds true also.

also are you positive you are seeing the correct mark, the 5deg mark and not the 15 or what ever it is?

i have seen some red and yellow paint mix ups come now from mazda reman facility on about 5 motors now. dont trust colors.

oh my god you jb welded the CAS onto the front cover.

theres no point in talking on this subject anymore because you cant remove your cas now to re-time your engine.

way to go "mechanic"

it doesnt say to jump the 2 prong connector when timing. it only says to do that while adjusting the idle speed. the car is an s4. and the timing marks were spray painted over, so took a tiny model paintbrush and painted the marks red. both red. but yes i do know wich is which... the leading is the first mark and the trailing is the second mark. you only need to set the leading because the cpu automatically fires the trailing coil 15 degrees after the leading... making it 20 degrees advance. the leading was set to 5 degrees advanced like it says too. the mark is dead on with the timing light. and if i have to remove the CAS like i have to do now, or move it, ill just use my dremel and grind it down, or use a drill and drill it down.

so do you have to jump the 2 prong terminal when timing? on an s4? and did i line up the C.A.S. right? like i said ^ in first post

teknic what the **** is your problem. anyway. all i have to do is use my dremel and grind it off... its not like I globed it on there. just a little spot to hold it. its temporary. so anyway. DO. I. HAVE. TO. PUT. A. JUMPER. WIRE. IN. THE. INITIAL. SET. COUPLER. "green 2 prong thing by coil" TO. SET. THE. TIMING? motor is rebuilt. compression good.

lemmy think,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, im thinking yes you do, motor should drop to 600 rpm, set timing there and your gold, but i may be incorrect here as i no longer even bother with the stock computers anymore.
