Ok, got an 97 2-dr coupe, no back seat jsut hatch......my ac doesn't work (when i bought it the guy couldn't keep it holding refridgerant) so he just took the belts off for it, now if i take all the ac parts of in the engine bay will that signifigantly lighten my car? and what else can i take off wihtout hurting the car, it's gonna be my daily driver (IS my daily driver) and i am gonna drive it this winter...thanx in advance for the help...

Fd3BOOST 12-14-2002 03:48 PM

A '97 ?

WTF?

pengaru 12-14-2002 03:49 PM

sound deadening material

removing all the AC parts is significant weight, the compressor is pretty heavy especially.

power steering pump and hosse if you don't mind using muscles to park.

switching to a single outlet exhaust, cuts the Y pipe weight in half at least, and eliminates one muffler.

stereo equipment

lighter wheels+tires

... theres more but i gotta run

pengaru 12-14-2002 03:50 PM

i'm assuming it's a typo and he meant 87

1988RedT2 12-14-2002 03:51 PM

Yah. It says 87 in his sig.

CrashFactory 12-14-2002 04:05 PM

nod...87, i just got up :P i am gonna remove ac crap, but i gotta leave the stereo and sound deadening material, i wanna DB+ Drag.....

sleeperRX7 12-14-2002 04:59 PM

every 100 lbs. is a tenth of a second off your 0-60/quarter mile time, just my .02 cents

93 R1 12-14-2002 05:03 PM

Believe it or not if you can find a set of factory wheels from a late 80's or early 90's Ford Festiva or Geo metro, they will bolt right on to your car.

They are only 155/80/13's so that should save a few pounds.

go on a diet, and dont lug around a chick, tell her to take the bus.

Rotaryman88 12-14-2002 06:34 PM

You have an SE which is one of the lightest models to begin with. The sound deadening stuff would help a lot, but if you wanna keep it...then thats that. Switch to aftermarket exhaust, yea HP inreases, but a bonez pipe vs stock cat is night and day. single exit exhaust weighs less but looks worse. Aftermarket seats are a big plus too...stock seats are like 36lbs or more in the SE. But I have one question...why do you worry so much about weight if your throwing in a big sound system?

Jerk_Racer 12-14-2002 09:22 PM

The stock exhaust is f'n heavy - get a nice aftermarket setup. Any one will do and it will be lighter. Take the rubber mat from the back hatch area out. Remove the AC. Your radiator will get more direct air across it and changing spark plugs will be easier. Replacing busted oil cooler lines will be easier (don't ask) as well. Get a 9.5# flywheel too.

I've removed tons of junk from under my hood. It's made my life easier. Less stuff to break. Plus it has taken lots of weight (it all adds up) out of there.

ChainSawOnSteroids 12-14-2002 10:07 PM

You might as well.

ChainSawOnSteroids 12-14-2002 10:14 PM

looks like a pain in the ass though

Jerk_Racer 12-14-2002 10:31 PM

It's not that hard to do. It well worth it.

red86 12-15-2002 01:21 AM

if you have that adjustable suspension crap take off the servo motors on top of the shocks cause they weigh like 2lbs each and i doubt they work and you get a switched power source under the hood

CrashFactory 12-15-2002 01:23 AM

ok, no electric suspension control, to bad though i think that might be fun to play with...how'd u guys know it was an SE cuz it's 2 dr-2 seat?

vosko 12-15-2002 01:23 AM

4 lug ...

CrashFactory 12-15-2002 01:32 AM

ahhh...see that's y i came here https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png (even though being called a ricer all fricking day is really beginning to IRRITATE me) is there a post or site to tell each model of the 7?

vosko 12-15-2002 01:36 AM

i've been planning on removing my aas, but i didnt think about the switched power supply, thanks :smirk:

any ideas on where to hide a bottle?

Apex13B 12-15-2002 03:32 PM

in those little storage things behind the seats

SoniX 12-15-2002 10:18 PM

eh, I plan on using the storage bins as a sub box, but, having thought about the bottle thing myself, I say, slide the passenger seat up some, and just stick it right there, if you are like me, there is always tons of crap in your car anyway, and you could just throw that on top of the bottle, and viola, instant sleeper, just don't lift your hood ("what are those SS lines with the red and blue connectors?" "uhh, brake lines", "on the intake?" "sure, they are air brakes, yeah, thats it, air brakes")

Put it in the spare tire storage area.

red86 12-16-2002 03:05 PM

keep your subs in the storage bins and get a sealed box with some cheap ass or blown speakers in it and hack off the baskets and magnets leaving only the fronts of the installed speakers mount the bottle in the now non functional box and drill a hole in the bottom of the box and run the lines thru the lil fule pump cover under the carpet in the hatch :smirk: ... oh yea and make sure you can get the back of the box off to refill your bottle

red86 12-16-2002 03:07 PM

oh yea too add to affect run wires to nowhere and put a blown amp on the box and wires into the back where the speakers plug in

FCmaniac 12-16-2002 05:10 PM

I was going to remove the exhaust heat shields too except around the gas tank.... wonder how much they weight and if it's worth it.

red86 12-16-2002 06:37 PM

if you single out the exhaust then take off the shields that dont have pipe under them
