as some of u might remember i bought a 10ae a few months back and it didnt have any, i mean ANY wiring in it. no dash harness, no ecu harness, everything not there and unplugged. i have bought all 3 harness and have plugged everything under the dash but under the hood, i only have about 1/2 the plugs in, i cant find where alot of them go and i didnt get anything under the hood, so im not to sure what important stuff i might be missing so someone jus give me some over all help on this problem and how to get thru it as me and my buddy have never had to completely rewire a car before.
problem 2, i have a japanese ecu harness that came with the motor, so i have 2 harness' trying to go thru the driver side gromit, whats the best way around this, drill a whole thru the firewall to run the other ecu harness thru, because it wont reach to the passegner side gromit. someone please help me out as we are stuck and not making so much progress |
1. pics would help. the main harness does a lot of stuff, and it clips into the alternator harness under the brake master too, so theres a lot of connectors on the left side
2. um i think you just need to find a us harness, the ecu plugs into the dash harness, so that one wont reach... |
hahaha for some reason i knew you would be the one to answer, u seem to be the wiring expert, im going out to work on it (at a friends garage) as soon as my buddy gets here so ill take plenty of pics and thanks for any and all help

j9 can you list what all the plugs are under the master? i have tons unplugged and i cant remember what theyre for lol.
kevin. |
i tok the pics on a friends cable wich takes a diff usb, like the size of a pin that i dont have, but ill get it and post tonight or tomoro, meanwhile, do u happen to know of any diagrams that show where the wiring goes?

yeah, all the plugs are different, so you cant get it wrong, its more like if you dont have all the stock bits anymore

its all confusing to me, its bad enough that im considering selling my 10ae
|
or atleast pay someone good money who can help me finish this, even when i look at it, it jus pisses me off

Probably the first thing you should do is to take the harnesses and label each of the plugs based on the FSM. Page 50-103 or so is where the engine, emissions and front harnesses start. The FSM shows plug shape and wire color, so you can figure out what you have and dont have, and a picture a page or two before show where in the car they all should end up. Pictures would also help a lot in identifying what everything is
you can find the FSM by googling ["factory service manual" 88 rx7] without the brackets. |

and this idk where the hell it goes, its in tha back by the passenger side taillight |
That first one looks like the engine harness (or at least thats how its labelled in the FSM). Its located on the left side (drivers side in the US) of the engine bay. It has the battery connections, the main ground (which looks like its been replaced in your case with that red wire), the fuse box, CAS, alternator, and a few sensors on its side of the engine. At least it has those sensors on it on my car, i recognise some of them on yours.
The second pic seems to be the plug that would lead to a different harness, but thats only based on the observation that mazda liked those bulky, 2-row plugs for harness-to-harness connections. |

alright i think i have figured out that this is the auto adjust suspension control unit?? would that be right? did the 10 ae have these? thanks again for allt the help It was an option. Does anyone still use AAS? Labeling connectors is a very good idea for the less obvious/unused stuff. Once you determine something to be NC, mark it with a band of red colored tape or something so you don't have to remember it's NC later on. There should be two heavy gauge wires running from the battery to the starter. The + side should be solid black and have a #8 AWG? wire attached going into the harness. I can't emagine having to completely rewire a car. My 88' SE came to me with the motor removed and hacked emission and engine harneses. Had to replace the EM harnes because it was so messed up/missing stuff. FYI, halfway through 1987 mazda changed the injectors to high impedence, and thus the connectors were changed and resistor pack removed. The dashboard has been out for out for a while now as well. Would it help to have some pics of where stuff goes up front? I could prbably borrow a camera... Good luck! Just think, when you get finnished with this project, you will be a wiring guru able to recal whole diagrams from memory. You'll be doing this stuf in your sleep in no time...(If you aren't already) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
whoa, this is not fun stuff, this is why i stopped turning wrenches and took over the computer and pencil pushing side of things, good luck!
