Well, I got my adapter for the 54mm (2 1/8") socket that fits the flywheel, borrowed an impact and busted the SOB off...it actually only took about 10minutes total, but I've been pouring on some liquid wrench and diesel for about a week to hopefully help it free up...two swift bumps(bump is an understatment) with a block of wood and it came off.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Next, I inspected it, and honestly...the flywheel looks to be in great shape. I cleaned it and checked for warps, hot spots, etc...nothing...looked very good. I got all the rust off and went ahead an installed it. Then I dug up( https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR ) a nice CF DF clutch...threw that on, tightened everything down, and slid the block back into the corner of the garage until Sunday when I will be installing the oil pan, motor mounts, etc and HOPEFULLY dropping the lil bitch into the car

Not much else left to do, and I have everything else I need so I shouldn't have to wait and put the project off too much more...I still need oil cooler lines, I had to cancel an order due to lack of funds(damn student loan payments)....

yea, it was pretty horribly rusted...but under all that rust was a nice clean, unfucked up flywheel, lol...

Last pic for now...hey, anybody know where I can a new sensor and that other lil brass thingy that goes under the oil filter? lol, pardon my lame terms, but I dunno what they are called https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

vosko 10-04-2002 04:08 PM

i hope that CF DF holds out........

Rotaryman88 10-04-2002 04:14 PM

Yea, me too! Thanks for tip w/ the block of wood, lol..

If the CF DF does go out, I'm going puck all the way and I'll probably swap the flywheel out at that time too, but right now, it's almost been exactly a year since the car was legally on the road, and I just want to drive it again...as long as the clutch holds for 1K miles...I'll be happy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

vosko 10-04-2002 04:17 PM

that little brass thing is the water temp sensor . the block trick works great https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rotaryman88 10-04-2002 04:24 PM

That's an odd place to put the water temp sensor...I figured since it was near the oil filter, it'd have to do w/ oil...so what is the other little sensor right below the fitler for? oil temp?

vosko 10-04-2002 04:32 PM

there are two sensors there one is oil pressure its a big brass sensor that screws in. the other is a little water temp sensor. neither are there in your picture.........

Rotaryman88 10-04-2002 04:35 PM

OOOH, ok...I must have confused ya...I thought you were saying the big brass thing was the water sensor...ok, alls good now. Yea, they aren't in the pic because they are still on the old motor, I think I'm gonna get new ones from mazda or mazdatrix...the idea of using old sensors worries me...

vosko 10-04-2002 04:37 PM

it took me a sec. i did say the wrong thing at first. LOL . a picture is worth a thousand words https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Rob x-7 10-04-2002 07:02 PM

Are you hot rodding that old vacuum in the pic, lol. Still no engine stand I take it? Is that the way the engine always sits? Out in the open like that? You should be taking every single last pre-caution to make sure that dirt does not enter then engine.

vosko 10-04-2002 07:04 PM

turbovr6 gave me an engine stand which i will use shortly to hold onto my jspec blown block https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

1Revvin7 10-04-2002 09:36 PM

engine looks purty... but u should really have that flywheel resurfaced...

phinsup 10-04-2002 09:39 PM

Hey I noticed some rust on your flywheel there you might want to replace that J/K https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Fastrotaries 10-05-2002 01:39 AM

wow, i can't believe that you didn't resurface the flywheel. i'm sure you got the rust off, but how accurately can you make sure that the surface is even and smooth. The CF DF should hold

Rotaryman88 10-05-2002 01:32 PM

Well, for starters...I got the surface extremely smooth, and have a tool that measures pits/ruts etc for cylinder walls and I used that and there was very little wear and tear. About the stand...there is not stand, however, I do have every hold plugged with something to keep dirt out, and the motor sits under two larger towels at all times. Everyday I work on it, I double check and make sure nothing seems to have gotten down into the motor. Also, being that there is no oil pan on yet, it is very easy to clean out the bottom of the block once I get it in the air, so I'm not overly worried...I have done numerous things like this before...small dust particles and **** won't hurt it...they won't last past 5 minutes of the motor running..you just dont want larger dirt particles and rocks, bugs, etc..in it..then your screwed.

Another note on the flywheel and clutch, these are for breakin purposes only really...I'm not asking much..as long as they last for the breakin, I'll be happy...both the clutch and flywheel will be replaced around January...
