When the beater gets hot.(After driving 20 miles in 90^ temp) engine will lose power/not accelerate.

Gages: 13+ volts on Alt

Mid range on temp

60+ on Oil Temp

New Leading and trailing plugs

Cleaned Secondary Injectors

Punched out cats and replacement pipe

Car starts and idles at 1200, I have not checked the TPS

Any thoughts????

Rob x-7 06-10-2003 08:33 PM

1200 is a fast idle, I would check and adjust the TPS, as well as the idle mixture, the idle, and the timing, all when the car is hot, just tune it by feel and see how it runs and starts, then see how it starts when its cold.

wanta be boosted 06-10-2003 08:49 PM

I would check you cats and see if they are clogged and glowing red, if you haven't alread gutted them.

And this is off topic, but do you want to buy my exhaust that I build John, there is pictures of it in this section, and it has spintech mufflers.

And if you don't know who this is, I am Cory that lives in Aiken. With the multi colored beater GTU.

Ohhh yeah and what is wrong with the RX-7 forum, is it messed up, I can't got there

Cory

read my post: I already punched out the cats

Apex13B 06-10-2003 09:44 PM

check for codes yet?

does the exhaust stink, as if its a hot mixture issue

j9fd3s 06-10-2003 10:30 PM

the how bad is it? is it sudden? or gradual? the only ive seen like this is on a gsl-se, it was fast cold and it would gradually get slow to the point where top speed was like 30-40 mph. it turned out to be an aftermarket fuel filter that has rusted internally and clogged itself

banzaitoyota 06-11-2003 06:58 AM

Comes on slowly as it gets hotter. If it sits 2 hours it is fine.

I am waiting on a care package from Mazdaformance with the filters and gaskets for a full bore tune-up. Along with the misc parts for the tranny swap

i think the fuel filter has a good chance of fixing it

Oooopps, I didn't see that.

wanta be boosted 06-11-2003 03:30 PM

Is there anyway that you can test your fuel pump motor??? I think it may be that, and it just needs to be replaced.

phinsup 06-11-2003 03:32 PM

I had the same issue with the GSL-SE, the dude had put some stop leak in the radiator and it was clogging up at the thermostat. Flushed it and replaced the thermostat and it was fine after that.

I don't think that would cause the problem, unless maybe it was seriuosly over heating. But other than that your thermostat is closed when your engine is cold and it opens up when your engine heats up. And it sounds like your saying that since it was stuck close that it was bogging the engine threw the water pump. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif Is that why you think it was doing that??? Becasue that wouldn't do that.

banzaitoyota 06-11-2003 03:42 PM

Temp and Coolant flow are fine

wanta be boosted 06-11-2003 04:47 PM

Now with all the parts cars you have laying around, and I know the one I traded you has a good fuel pump, just take 20 minutes and swap another fuel pump into the car and see if that fixes it.

banzaitoyota 06-12-2003 09:05 AM

Care package from MAzdaformance arrived last night.

While removing the inlet hose to the fuel filter, a vile reddish brown substance started oozing out of the line...****!!!!! RUST!!!!!!!!.

Change fuel filter.

Move to rear of car, remove fuel pump, Sock is full of crud.

Make decision to use another fuel pump with NEW sock.

Start car up. Still has idle issues, but the 4K-5K stumble is gone https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Based on the rust and crud in the tank I will replace the tank this weekend. I will also recirculate some OSPHO through the fuel line to flush out any rust crud.

The primary/secondary Injectors will also be pulled and sent out for cleaning

j9fd3s 06-12-2003 12:56 PM

sucks, i think i gotta pull the gsl-se injectors and clean em too, leans out at high rpms

3. Install Manual Parts in Beater

no, but I owned a 87 323 that thought it was a datsun.

banzaitoyota 06-12-2003 09:01 PM

Allright..just got back from the shop,

Did a compression test. 95 PSI, good even bounces

Pulled the UIM, swapped the good clean secondaries in place of the primaries. Fixed the wiring to the alternator and replace the sheared stud for the CAS.

Car still idles like ****. Almost like 1 rotor isn't firing. not bad for 2 1/2 hours time. Will check the iginition and check the fuel system Friday. Still need to swap tanks

wanta be boosted 06-13-2003 11:54 AM

Datsun hell, have you ever owned a 1939 chevy truck. Well I have, and if I would have sand blasted it to get rid of rust there would have been nothing left. Other than a pile of sand and rust that is.

Hahahaha..., this truck was the same way, every time you would hit it with anything, rust would fall off of it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Damn I'm glad I sold that rust bucket. But then again I should have never bought it in the first place.

the 323 was like that, closing the door was considered a weight reduction so much rust would fall off.

yep, looks like Autozone was the previous owners store of choice, Autozone battery, alternator, starter, belts, filters. Thank god for Mazdaformance

banzaitoyota 06-23-2003 09:08 AM

The latest. The top rad house had been replaced with a GENERIC convuluted hose, which was longer than stock. This caused the hose to rub against the AFM harness connection. MORONS!!!! Replaced with stock hose, Treated AFM connection with Stabilant 22.
