I've been checking out rx7s for a bit and have been reading up on things here and there, i've decided that i want to get an FC (turbo preferably), what is the price range for a good and running FC? Also, what should i search for when buying an Fc? i've read somewhere that people prefer to have a cold start to see if white smoke comes out, and what not, what do they mean by that? Also, if i get one, what are the first things i should do to it, in a tuneup? anything special required? Any and all information would be great cause im very interested ingetting myself an Fc...thanks in advance

cold start /white smoke isnt much of a problem unless its a heavy amount, its the blueish smoke that worries me. all cars smoke alittle bit when cold.

check the idle rpm and how smooth or rough it may be, i like to see them idling 1000rpm or less under full operating temps.

tune up is a good idea, buy good ngk spark plugs for sure, mazda sells them so do some parts stores, do not run any non rotary specific plug in the car for it wont run for ****.

if buying a s4 (86-88) turbo car check the exhaust manifold for cracks and make sure the twinscroll is working properly.

also check the oil make sure there isnt any coolent in it, it may sound odd but a blown motor can still run.

other then that there may be some other ppls on here that have some other ideas for ya, im too tired to think right now.

happy shopping.

Negative...

I bought my first first gen with no smoke on start up but a little puff, didnt think anything of it because I knew nothing about rotarys so we bought it.

Six Months later I could smoke out the neighborhood because of the coolant seal being bad.

My 2nd Gen doesnt smoke...at all.

yeah they shouldnt have any white smoke at startup, this means coolant in the chambers.

the white smoke you speak of is just condensation(water) in the exhaust being burnt off. that is all.

It all really depends on the area where you are buying, condition, mileage, modifications, etc. You would be better off buying a non-modified car, because you start off nice and fresh, try to find something with a remaned motor. But you end up paying more for that type of thing.

Good luck on looking. You can also check out the 2nd Gen FAQ section, there is a TON of info on there for what to do first, helpful tips, etc.

You're joking right? Uhh, when your car SPITS out coolant after having white smoke that you speak of for months, I think it's safe to say that ANY SMOKE IS BAD.

My 2nd Generation RX7 doesnt smoke any oil, coolant, etc, at start up, my dads rx8 doesnt, his first generation GSL doesnt...its not normal...

Wow, you must just be special.

Oh, and how come when I start up a new car where I work at, it puts out a little smoke? Are all of the cars blowing coolant out, oil out? C'mon, tell me all knowing rotary god, because you are coming off as is.

Or are you just that damn special?
