I had some one ask me if this could work and i didnt know. I do know that the cooler the air the denser there fore the better. But what i didnt know is if you hooked up an intercooler to a na it would work. Turbos are pushing out alot of air. It seems to me that adding an intercooler into the line and the extra piping would decrease how much air made it to the engine on a na. Plus i dont see to big of a hp gain from this on a na. Anyone know anything on this so i can better answer the question?

It's funny you bring this up. I've got a Starion intercooler I've been trying to sell, but I was thinking that it would be funny to weld on a 180 deg. U bend on one inlet, with an air filter on it. And on the other inlet welding a 90 deg. bend. And then listing the thing on Ebay as the untimate cold air intake. I'm sure some rice boy would buy it.

89 Rag 03-21-2003 11:27 PM

you dont need an intercooler on an n/a, serves no purpose.

Seppuku 03-21-2003 11:36 PM

yeah i just couldnt think of any real reasons why would/wouldnt work. But i figured it wouldnt and told the guy it wouldnt but then he wanted to know why it wouldnt.

How much were you wanting for it? im still undecided on if i want to go turbo or not but depending on that i might want it. But im sure you could get more money out if it your other way the ricers would love it.

when you compress air it heats up, so the intercooler is there to try and bring the temps back down to ambient. on an na you arent heating the air, so thats why you dont need an ic

This is the IM i got from the person wanting to know i edited the name

tuner4life: yo

RX7 88 Vert: um hi

tuner4life: Im wanting a cooler intake. any suggestions?

tuner4life: what about intercooling?

RX7 88 Vert: is it turbo or na?

tuner4life: na

RX7 88 Vert: That wont work

tuner4life: why not

RX7 88 Vert: well as far as i know it wont work i dont have any evidence to say yes or no but i dought it will

tuner4life: so then why do you say it wont if you dont know why it wont

RX7 88 Vert: hold on

tuner4life: yo you find out yet

I signed off for a while and then came back on and he was still bothering me. I need to figure out how to block these fools.

$185 shipped to your door. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I wouldn't be making a dime off of it. I bought it from Rotaryman88 about 9 months ago for $185 shipped.

I was thinking of trying to sell it for $300 if I made it the ultimate cold air intake, and all I'd have to do is buy a $20 cone filter, and $20 worth of aluminum pipe bends. But I would rather sell it to someone who would use it for an intercooler.

The reason turbos need an IC is because whenever air is compressed it heats up, and when you use exhaust gasses to turn the turbine to compress air, it gets really hot.

yeah i understand the reason for them on turbos. That all makes perfect sense to me. Just for some reason i couldnt figure out the other part till i started thhinking about it and then i read mikes post.

Ill let you know about the IC later.

Yup, mike types too fast, he beat me to it. I think he beats about half the people to the answers. Damn him! J/K https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

Talk about major restriction for a na engine to breath https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

hmmm what kind of intercooler is that?

Rotaryman88 03-22-2003 01:26 PM

You still have that starion, lol...hey, that was a nice one though, ya gotta give me credit! I'm sure some member on here would want it.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 03-22-2003 02:37 PM

I figure someone will buy it if I keep bringing it up in posts. Did you get your car running yet? If not, quit posting on here, and get your ass out there and work on it. J/K!

its like putting a bov on a na. it has no pourpose. an intercooler is there to keep the air commin out of the turbo cool for rentry why would you want to recycle air? plus there is not enough pressure to push air through the ic which would make you run rich. because the AFM is before the intercooler, and less air on other side of intercooler, I would Hypothisize. you also you lose some air efficiency to its resisitance.

You could use the intercooler on an na if you somehow cool the intercooler down a lot for like those really hot days. I'm sure the iced IC would make d little difference on a 100 degree day. But it's still a waste of time. There are better things you could do in that time.

Yea, I agree.. you would prob. be better off spending your money on something that would actually help your n/a a little more than an ic.

Seppuku 03-22-2003 04:18 PM

Yeah i was just tired last night and not thinking straight when the guy asked me the question. Now im reading this and going what the **** was i thinking last night?

pengaru 03-22-2003 04:28 PM

if you want to make your intake air colder, you could try fabricating ice tanks around your intake components and fill them with ice when you race.

theres always n2o, intercooler in a bottle.

FikseRxSeven 03-22-2003 04:44 PM

well, if you're using an air to air intercooler, there is no way it will work perfonrmance wise..........

the air going in is being cooled by the same temperature are....... so it doesnt change any temperature.

maybe if you use a water to air intercooler, then that might work for you........ or even water injection, but i dont think the intake temperature would be warm enough to vaporize the water.

you're right n20 does lower intake temps
