I was bored so I decided to kill some brain cells by searching rx7 related stuff ebay and other various vendors, and I was curious to why almost all the High Flow air filter kits (cone type) always say "for non-turbo only!" I'm like "WTF?" Is there a valid reason why they all say that, vaccuum that strong that it might pull the intake apart? whats the dilly? I want my turbo to breath, and I am interested in a dual cone type filter (like A'pexi's Power Intake), However I can't find one that says "For Turbo" I want my turbo to breathe for christ sake.

Also on the subject of Intakes, I mentioned earlier the A'pexi power intake. I have an s4 and notice that the Intake kit is only for S5 models. Is there a way to retrofit the Power Intake to the S4? I've never had a chance to look at it up close to see if it would work if I got the 3 in cone adapter for the s4.

Any Ideas, Answers or what not?

Phinsup, are you talking about the same FPIK shown on your site, with the cold air pipe and all? If so, how in the hell did you get the piping to mate to the turbo?? or did you just use the Filter that came with it. I wasn't clear on that subject. Besides I was gonna have a muffler shop build a custom TID for me out of 3" Aluminum tubing, so I am really in the market for an air filter that will mate to the AFM (Until I get an aftermarket ECU, then I guess the AFM wont be necessary). I was actually looking at the Accel Kool Flow kit I am intrigued by the venturi setup and the secondary hose that can be place remotely to grab air from outside the engine bay. The only thing that I am concerned about is the price, 300 dollars seems a bit much for what they are trying to sell, and the concept is simple and straight forward, no black magic so why the high price, Very Frustrating. any of ya'll have any dirt on the kool blue series air filters?? Not that I am avoiding K&N just that I want to keep my options open. thanks for your help.

I have accell books I'll check the pricing for you in the book, that FIPK is not the actual pic. It's basically some mounting harware, adapter and filter. I'll check K&N's site and see if I can find an acutal pic. I am not sure on the Accell, I don't know anything about it. Honestly I don't think the FIPK is worth the money, my bet is you could spend that $200 on a lot better mods.

IMO, the FIPK isn't worth the $$, All you get is the adaptor for the AFM (S4), a few screws, a mounting bracket, and the filter. Not worth $200+ if you ask me. Also, I don't think there is any noticable performance gain from using a K&N over, say a APC filter. I don't get why some people make such a big deal about an air filter. The filters should fit on both NA and turbo cars. If your car is a S4, jusyt go on Ebay and buy the filter adaptor, and pick up a filter from Phinsup that'll fit the adaptor. If your car is a S5, Measure the inlet into the AFM, and buy a filter from Phinsup that'll fit. I had my filter on my NA first, but now it is on my dead AE. The adaptor will mount up to a turbo, or NA AFM. The mounting points are the same.

Yeah that was what I was thinking! I can't justify spending such amount of money on just a airfilter and an adaptor. (Unless the air filter is REALLY That good!) I've been thinking for a while about grabbing one of those 6$ adaptors on ebay for a while, the only thing that has really stopped me was the question in my original posting, since now I know it really doesn't matter. I think I'll just do what everyone is saying. It just boils down to which has the best breathing capacity. I know the AFM is the biggest bottleneck in the FC's Intake system, so I just want to make sure that the filter I choose doesn't add to that bottleneck.

ok now i noticed that the stock filter gets its air from the center... if i just take the box off and strap a filter on there could i need to take the "pass to flash" lights out to get air to flow to it?
