Hey guys,

I picked up a set of 90 tail lights but I don't have the center license plate metal piece. Now on some links I've read that you need the center piece for the install and others I've read you don't need it but need to cut into the sheet metal a bit to clear the one inner bulb housing from the S5 light. I don't understand why this cutting of the chassis is needed only when not using the metal center piece.

This whole thing is confusing. Has anyone done this swap (with or without this center piece)?

Thanks.

you need to either cut or pound on the lip with a hammer if you use the center thing or not. the early center has 2 little tabs that dont fit with the 89+ lights, you can either remove the tabs or just not use the center peice at all.

I would grind those tabs off instead of wacking the car with a hammer.

you only need to move a little bit, less than a 1/4"

still seems easier and whiter to sand or grind off a little plastic then wacking the car with a hammer.
