if you get a couple off then and loosen the nut it might free it.... PITA i know....
|
ok... im now on day 4 or installing a ******* downpipe! 4 days! And i have tried for several hours to get the little pieces of metal bent away to get to the bolts that hold it on. I have tried everything i can think of short of sawing off the precat and taking a torch to the ******* bolts. The metal pieces are just too strong to move with even a screwdriver and hammer. Any ideas?
When i started this, and even up untill now, i wasnt very frustrated. Now im just pissed and want to take and axe to the car. :( |
Relax grasshopper. You are water. The removal of the precat is stone. You are water wearing away stone. In time, you shall succeed.

I was able to unbend the tabs with a really big flat-bladed screwdriver. Just look for a good angle, wedge it between the nut and the tab, and twist. You might not have to get it all the way unbent in order to get a wrench on it. A socket will likely be harder to get on it if the tab is at all in the way, so try a wrench. Those nuts are really hard, but be careful not to round them off.

if all else fails do what any person not in their right mind would do.... take a 25 lb sledgehammer to the car
|
did you heat them at all? Cause these things dont want to move at all. i pried at them for like an hour and didnt move it at all.. even when i hit the screw driver with a hammer.
|
id just take it to a muffler shop to have it removed and replaced, too much time and effort if you are gonna take a sledgehammer to it
|
muahah, taste my pain. I worked at a muffler shop in IL for bout a year, that's how every car was that came in for exhaust work. ******* winter and salt.
2 words oxygen acetylene |
a muffler shop wont take off my cat and replace it with my downpipe. They all bitch about it being illegal.
