Ok, so this 'should be' couple hour job has turned into a 8+ hour job. Im trying to install my dp and mp. Well I have everything ready to go, but i cant seem to get my damn stock precat off! I cant get to the bolts no matter what angle i go at it from. I would REALLY love to get rid of my ******* ABS, but i dont know how to do that and i would probably mess it up badly. So the ABS gets in the way and is VERY annoying! From under the car I can barely get to the bolts holding on the heat shield for it. And i cant get to the real bolts untill i take off the heat shield. :( So really, im in a bad situation. Anyone have any help or ideas on how to get this ******* thing off without ripping apart my whole engine? Which ive already started doing.. :( Its just really pissing me off.

what year is the car? and put this in the right section!

vosko 11-30-2002 06:42 PM

you just need a ratchet with two extensions and angle attachment. that's all

sidewinderx7 11-30-2002 06:46 PM

If i put it in the right section no one would see it for atleast an hour... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR See, it worked, i got 2 replies in less than 1 minute. As for the car, its a 91 t2. You make it sound so easy vosko.. :( But im gonna take you up on it... looks like i gotta run to the parts store and buy some new sockets..

I've learned to sleep on it when I start getting frustrated like that and ideas pop in my head that involve ripping motors apart and such https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR usually just needs a fresh brain.

i've only taken off the downpipe on my old 89 TII like 10 times.... i sorta know. you ought to know by now people will answer in like 5mins or less https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

The downpipe isn't that bad to take off. You just need the right tools. Buy yourself a basic set of Craftsman, Snapon, or even Husky tools. Anything with a lifetime warranty is usually quality. Deep sockets and 1/2 deep sockets help here. They allow you to get a better grip on the nuts. Use 6 point. 12 point tend to round off nuts. I've also used the swiveling sockets and extentions. Take your time and you should be able to get it off. Spray all the nuts and botls with pb blaster or liquid wrench. The abs shield can be loosened and moved out of the way.

abs shield isn't in the way on a TII
