inertia switch location
#1
I recently totaled my 88 convertible. slid sideways in turn, hit a high bank, and rolled it a couple of times. Really, really, f*ckin' sucks!!!! I'm hoping this car has an inertia switch. I got knocked out cold, but when i awoke, the car was upside down.. The fuel light was on and the tank was allmost bone dry when i wrecked, so hopefully if it does'nt have an inertia switch, the engine only ran without oil for a half a minute or so, and i can rebuild without a lot of hassle- (running 200:1 mix)- hopefully just do ecccentric shaft, bearings, oil pump, seals, etc... ANYWAY, if this car has that type of switch, where is it??? getting it towed home tommorow.. don't know if it is a TOTAL loss yet.

Theoretically, if the car was upside down, the fuel would have to be sitting on the top of the tank rather than the bottom. The pickup is on the bottom, so as soon as the fuel pump started sucking air (which would be immediate), the motor would shut down from fuel starvation. That won't really hurt anything. As far as the car is concerned, it instantly and literally ran out of gas, so it couldn't idle.
Just relax, the motor is probably fine. The oil would have done the same thing, and the pickup would have started sucking air, and oil pressure would have dropped. Only could have lasted as long as it took for the fuel pump to also suck air and force a shutdown.
The amount of bearing damage the motor would have seen for that short time with no oil pressure is probably equivalent to one or two dry starts (galleries not charged with oil, so engine starts and runs before oil pressure has time to develop).
