https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif I've got an 89 gtus with an HKS supermega flow intake and a header of some sort (it was on the car when i bought it) and a HKS sport class cat back exhaust. The motor was just rebuilt and i put about 1500-2000 miles on the motor and i recently took my car the strip and the best run my car gave was a 17.110! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif what kinds of times should i be running.

When i got my the motor rebuilt he took it off and the car ran like **** above 4500 RPM. He said the models before mine did not need them but he just found out the 89 and newer cars need them. Does he know what hws talking about.

My car also had an extremely rough idle the day i raced it.

I drove the car over an 1 at 80 miles an hour to the strip

so my motor was hot could this have been a cause of slow E.T.'s

personally I wouldnt bother racing the car, you would be lucky to get in the 15's with it so why break it?



now if its a spare car that you dont care about go for it, but why bother

if its your daily driver?

i ran 15.9 with my old GTU....



you should be in the 15's

I don't think there is a point in drag racing non ported NA's unless tuning or something but I ran 16.0 with cone filter and exhaust on one. I ran 15.7 with header, filter, exhaust, efan, aluminum hood, and manual steering on the other. They don't really like drag strips. You should definitely be in the 15's though with your 4.30 rear. What are your 60 foot times and what was your MPH through the traps? And yeah, you should have the air pump to activate your auxillary ports. Maybe that is why you are in the 17's.

Maybe your 6ports aren't opening. On the 89-92 NA's the airpump opens them. That would cause a loss of power above 4500 rpm. I don't know if it would be super bad though.

On the 89-91 models, the airpump opens the auxillary ports, as already mentioned. This will result in a HUGE power loss (some have shown upwards of ~25HP loss from non-working ports). Also, if you still have cat(s) you also need the pump to prevent them from getting burnt up and clogging.

Edit - I missed the part about possibly not having an airpump, so that's the most likely cause of the 17s.



But, everyone is always so quick to blame the car. Don't people stop to think it could be the driver?
