ok.... so i FINALLY got my car started... now i got another problem...

it seems to sometimes (intermittently) blow a S&*TLOAD of smoke out the exhaust.... i'm talking smokescreen.... the rotary mechanic said that it was probably just a bit of oil built up in the exhaust.... but i've lost HEAPS of oil....

any ideas? he mentioned that it may also be oil control rings (or something similar to that)

am i looking down the barrel of a rebuild?? :(

If your car is burning that much oil, its a bad thing. It's not leaking or anything right? No oil spots under the car? chances are it is the oil rings internally and a rebuild is around the corner...how does the car drive? have power?

rota-re 07-03-2002 11:25 AM

car feels exactly the same as it always has.... no probs at all with it....

can't find any oil spots.... just loads of it burning.... espically at or after hi rpm runs....sometimes it seems fine tho....

theres no way that i'm rebuilding w/o turboing it.... but i don't have much $$ to play with at the moment... :(

rota-re 07-03-2002 11:26 AM

...and it idles nicely as well...

Rotaryman88 07-03-2002 11:42 AM

Yea, sounds like a weak seal. When you get into the higher RPM range, it puts more pressure onto the seals and its letting oil slip through and get burnt up...more then its supposed to. You should *ok* for a little while, but I would be looking into getting the rebuild soon...

rota-re 07-03-2002 11:47 AM

F**K! :(

Rotaryman88 07-03-2002 11:51 AM

Yea, sorry man...hopefully I'm overlookin something simple and somebody else on here will point it out...but in my opinion...it doesn't sound good.

horn4858 07-03-2002 12:04 PM

how many miles u got out of engine?

rota-re 07-03-2002 12:19 PM

i only bought it 5 months ago.... its got almost 200,000 km on the clock.... so roughly 124,300 miles (i think)

not kool....

Rotaryman88 07-03-2002 12:26 PM

My NA blew the coolant seals at 111K miles :(

Sometimes they last long, sometimes not...it really depends on who had the car first and how they cared for it.

were waiting on atkins seal kit[850$] i hope it comes today. been sitting since jan.

rota-re 07-03-2002 12:33 PM

yeah... i had a very "interesting" experiance with this one.... turns out somebody thought that a good way to fix the p/s was to fill the insides with silastic (read: gooey ****).... ended up leaking p/s fluid out of the electrical connectors to the pump.... *nervous look*

just one of many strange things they probably did to my car....

rota-re 07-04-2002 02:02 PM

good news on this front....

after losing HEAPS of oil while driving my portable smokescreen... something has somehow fixed itself (i think). I'm not chewing any oil anymore.... theres no smoke (even at high rpm) and everything its back to the way it was... very strange.

It was an idea of a rotary mechanic to try and "drive it out", seems to have worked! he said there was the possibility that the flooding caused the oil to thin... leaking past seals etc.

As long as it doesn't start again.... i'm happy! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rotaryman88 07-04-2002 04:36 PM

Well that all worked out then...glad you don't need the rebuild yet. Although, that does sound kinda odd that something that seemed that severe would just go away, lol...have fun, happy rotor'n https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
