I Think I'm Gonna Be Sick...

[quote name='donhayes' date='Jul 8 2005, 12:21 PM']I buddy of mine had a gallant VR-4 that was tunned nicely. He sold it to a kid and told him to not turn up the boost for long durations. But the kid didn't listen and overboosted the car. He blew the motor and turbo a couple months later and totaled it. Very sad story for a rare fast car.

this happend to my turbo 510, i got it back while it was still running ok but the damage had been done by the person who had it

I know all of your pains. I had a 1967 GTX (one of 1500 made w/ the 440 and 3-spd powerglide in it), that I built, while I lived in Tampa.
That was my BABY. 660RWHP and 590ft lbs tourqe. 455 overbored/ stroked, 5-speed conversion, Racing Buckets, Full system (2 8s, 2 10s, and 2 12s), Pro-traction suspension, Pro-Street rear-end, Full Drag-spec cage, 5-point harnesses, Fuel-cell for my 119 octane.
You know, the important stuff. That sucker ran the 1320 in 10.65-10.72.
Well, I ended up gettin' into some ****, and went to jail...
Car gets repo'd.
Some kid talks his dad into buyin' it.
Races a 5.0.
Loses control, and wrecks it.
Not just like, "Mom, I rear-ended someone," wrecks it... More like, "Get the jaws of life," wrecks it.
Kid slides the car 60', and then flips it several times.
Everyone agreed: The paramedics, Fire and Rescue, Police, Insurance company, spectators (most people call 'em witnesses)... All of 'em. If it weren't for the cage, and harnesses, this kid'd be DEAD. I got a letter from his insurance company THANKING me for taking those precautions.
Lesson learned, boys and girls? The saying, "If you love it, set it ffree..."
DOES NOT APPLY TO CARS!
Sorry to hear your pains. We all have a similar story.
