my 89 gxl did the same thing. though i was not of the great inteligance such as yourself to remove the MOP. i just ran 20w50 oil, put petitt racing premix in the gas tank and shot a 70 shot of N20 , motor never went. corse I DID HAVE THE MOP AND PREMIX IN THE TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the problem is on a cold start up the car would smoke some, nothing major, but on a hot day after a heat soak the car would smoke somemore. after the N20 backfire i sold the motor to a race team the ran a 4 hour enduro with it and they finaly broke a water jacket seal wich killed the motor, though they did finish the race , took 3rd that weekend but could not make the race on sunday. anyways if your car is smoking big ****** deal its a rotary its hereditary.

Customer: my motor is smoking on cold starts.

Technician: lets completely drain your oil and see if it still smokes, if yes then we'll move to the coolant. Once we run out of fluids to drain, we'll put some silicone into the engine to make sure all the gaskets are good.

Burning oil does not mean that its lubricating the apex seals or any seals for that matter.

corse I DID HAVE THE MOP AND PREMIX IN THE TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i didnt remove the omp i blocked it off, besides if i did remove it the car would bearly run.

i just drove the car over 300miles today and the car is still runing strong.

the OMP system is to pervent rotor housing chiping 100 miles will not "tost" a motor, it will put more were on the rotor housings and apex seal but will not scrap a motor.

we had a customer come in he had gotin riddin of his omp system completly and never ran premix, the car ran for two years like that takeing him to and from work, and that was not what caused the moter to fail, it was overheated and he poped a seal, now the rotor housing were scraped but he put over 25,000 miles on the moter like that.

dumbass the MOP is there for not only lubing the apex seals but also to aid in compression and to lube the seals so they do not stick and to help provent housing damage(ie, housings being scraped up) and to help cool combustion chamber as well. now you can totaly remove the MOP and put a block off plate in its place but you need to run a 250 to 400/1 premix of 2 stoke oil.

now even the most unmechanicly incline people know friction causes heat. what happens when one removes a componet of an engine that aids in lubing and cooling a rotating assembly? MORE HEAT, MORE FRICTION, therefor more problems down the road. now a catistrophic failure may not happen within 100 miles, hell it may not even happen in 5000 miles but it will happen alot sooner then if the MOP was still intact. there is a reason for the MOP system on this engine, Mazda is not stupid by any means , so why **** with what we all know works.

ever stop and think the reason your car is smoking is because of a carbon problem? if the side seals and oil control rings are carbon packed they will not seal untill the heat is enuff to melt the carbon some to seal up the engine, this is exactly the case with my old 89 na motor before the racer blew the water jacket. now with that all said ever try some ATF or sea foam to clean out the motor? logic only leads one to beleive that a rotary will have a carbon issue very easly and logic would also say that maybe the engine needs some tlc before removing anything that helps the engine run and stay together like the ****** MOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and i will say it again SOME SMOKE IS HEREDITARY ON START UP IN A ROTARY ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!! even a brand new rx8 smokes some.

White smoke on start up = some sort of water, could be coolent or could be dew or just the climate at the time of smoke when starting it

black smoke= carbon burning, or ya put desil in the tank by mistake

blue smoke= now this is the smoke of an oil problem and alot of rotarys have this and if only a little bit not a big problem.

hasnt this topic been beatin to death over and over and over.

Finally! Why didn't someone just say this in the beginning.

Oh, and just because the motor eats a little oil doesn't mean it's toast. It means it soon will be!

yea i know a little smoke is normal on stat up but this is not a little, till the thermostat opens i leave a fog behind my car, i thought about the seals being carbon packed so for about 4000 miles when i filled up along with the pre mix i would but about a 1/3 of a bottle marval mystery oil, but it did not help.

FYI s5 if you use a block off plate for the omp you will go into limpin mode, and need to get it chiped if you want it to run right.
