I removed the cover for the bbs wheels on the newish vert, and saw that it needs a lug key to get one of the lug nuts off. But we don't have the lug key. What am I supposed to do to get this thing off?

aditionally, both right signals don't work. Both bulbs are good (I tried them on the left side), and there's a fast ticking sound. I checked all fuses, they're fine. How do I get the right signals back?
|
smack a socket on the lug nut and try to get it off like that
Im not even sure if there is a flasher for these cars, but look for one in the fuse panel. |
the lug nut is round on the outside, it's a female piece. Should I still try to smack a socket on it?
|
rob is correct..
force a socket in it.. itll create the grip necessary to turn it.. |
There are flashers on these cars. I had the same problem with mine, its a pretty big unit.
heres an idea for the lugs if it comes down to this, weld an extention for a 1/2 socket on the top of the lug nut. |
I guess I'll try to find something to fit in it, or on it.
As for the flasher, where is it located? I might have a functional spare on my parts car. |
Drivers side of the car, behind the main fuse panel
|
Bigger wheel and tire shops usually have a big box of the sockets for those locking lugnuts, if there's one nearby go there and see if they've got one to fit.
|
I took it to a brake shop this morning. I wanted to take this car out of town tomorrow, so I'm just ready to get it done. I told them they can mutilate the lug nut however they want, as long as they have a regular nut to replace it.
As for the flasher thingy, I'll check that out tonight, and see if I can yank the one off my parts car. |
at my shop we have an assortment of lock breaking/removing tools. its normally like a 10mminute job.

The guy said they got 3 out of 4 off. He said they have a special tool for keyed lock nuts, and that even with that he couldn't get the one off. Said it was incredibly tight.
So far 2 people have pointed out "what if you get a flat tire on that one?" I'm thinking I'll have to get this dang lug nut off real soon, before that happens. The rear rotors weren't too torn up, so they milled them and replaced pads. He said it looked like the rear brakes haven't been changed in a long time (there was no lining left, metal-on-metal). |
I like the idea of welding something on it and hitting it with an impact wrench.
|
that one they couldnt get off possibly could be crossthreaded.
you can go to an autoparts store and buy a set of sockets to remove locking lug nuts, all you do is hammer them on real good with a nice 3lb sledge and then take the nut off. they also have left-hand threaded removers that you screw onto the locking nut then when you go to take the socket off it bites into the lug nut harder. if all else fails get a "Gator Grip" socket, the socket with all the needles that supposively "fits any size nut" or whatever. The pins will fit into the locks pattern and if you take your time will be able to back out the nut. of course none of this matters if someone put that nut on and cross-threaded it. then you might as well chisel the nut right off and replace the stud. kevin. |
Thanks for the info, I'll try one of those soon.
|
**** i'm in the same boat. any more suggestions on how to get lock nuts off?
|
a sharp, good drill bit and a new wheel stud

i just paid $20 at the local garage to do it.
|
I realize it doesn't work on all wheels but sometimes a plumber's pipe wrench and a jack handle for extra leverage can break the locking lugnuts loose.
now there's a nice idea, and I say that becuase I actually have a pipe wrench, lol. I'll try that. |
Whatever trick you use - a shot of "PB Blaster" often helps.
|
alittle offtopic: any tricks to get the screws out of the brake rotors? i raped them with pb blaster and they refuse to come out.
|
impact screwdriver, or just drill them out.
|
i dont have a impact screwdriver or drill :(
i'll find someone that does. the rotors are junk anyway (got new ones) |
i am a little late in this topic baldy, but I have a snap-on lockinglug nut remover, would be a pain in the ass to get to you, but we can figure something out.
|
cool, I appreciate that. When I get off my lazy ass and try a few things to get it off, I'll let you know what happens.
|
If all else fails for the rotor removal use a dremel with a grinding bit on it and grind the head off, after the rotor is off you can usually just take off whats left off with pliers
