I have yet to remove my old flywheel from the block because it wants to be a bitch! I just wanna get it off so I can use it to get my car on the road! On a lighter note, yesterday...I installed the fuel rails, lines, spider, etc...but I'll probably be capping most of the vaccum lines off...as soon as I figure out which ones I'm gonna need...doesn't appear that I'm gonna make my Oct deadline I wanted...but hey...it's getting closer!





Once it's done and broken in, we may try to have a dyno day at peter farrel's shop..if he'll agree to do some kind of discount, anybody in the Va, Md, Nj area should come join us...we've got a hooters

what is your problem with the flywheel ? won't pop off? whack it a bunch of times with piece of firewood a good size one. got ALL of my jspec flywheels off that way

firewood,socket extensions, prybars... you name it, we've tried it!

Glad to hear things are coming along. This last time I took off my flywheel, it took me the better part of two days just to get the nut off. I went through two breaker bars and even bought an impact gun that went to 400lbs. I finally got it off using a rachet wrench(last 1/2 drive I had) and 3 foot extention of pipe. It only took me like 2 seconds to get the flywheel off using a crowbar however. Might as well get the flywheel resurfaced since its out. It cost me 35$ at the local shop and took about an hour to do it.

if you look in the shop manual they show a picture of the facoty tool. go to hdr (home depot racing) and make something like that. i had to do that once, i had to tighten the **** out of it and hit it with a hammer

Just screw in two long bolts into the threaded holes of the flywheel(near the center there should be three). Once they touch the block put a rachet and socket to them and tighten them until the thing just pops off. It should work. That's how I got mine off. Good luck.

yeah that's what those threaded holes are there for. But if you want to give yourself a headache, use a crowbar. what pitch are those holes anyway.

I don't like using the bolts that press against the rear housing or prying at it / wacking it. RB has jigs for flywheel removal and counterweight removal, they basically attach to the flywheel using the threaded holes then press againts the end of the eccentric shaft (leave the big nut on partially threaded for protection)... this is a pretty safe method and works quite well. I bought the press parts from RB just to see what they were like but I ususally use a generic T puller with the correct bolts, again with the screw of the puller against the center of the eccentric shaft.

The bolts I used were from the bell housing of my tranny. The ones used to bolt the tranny to the back of the engine.
