Freeze plug is actually a widely accepted name for freeze plugs, considering 'core plugs' have multiple purposes for their existance, relief of the media after casting, and relief in the event of freezing coolant to prevent a cracked (expensive) block. Considering their only function after the block is created is to plug the holes in the block and provide a safety measure in the event of a freeze I prefer to call them freeze plugs, as it is an intuitive name and the rest of the automotive world knows what I'm talking about when I say it.

Have you tried searching summitracing.com for 'engine core plugs' and found what you want? Considering none of us cast engine blocks, and most of us have at least once purchased parts for our cars from summit and would likely do it again, it seems freeze plugs is the proper term for us to use?

Herez an update. I got the testor $160 after getting said apater. Pump it a few times and the radiator vent just let the pressure out imidiatly (IE pressure wouldn't build). Then I pluged that and pump it up to about 5 psi, and low and behold water started dripping out of the passenger side of the motor.

So right now I am about to pull the motor. And it is almost completly stripped. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

asking for a specific core plug is easy, we bought one for an inline-4 ford engine last week at ramapo auto parts. shall i find the box or something?

as for freeze plug, there's no plug that fits the common idea behind a "freeze plug" which most say is use to save the engine in extreme temperatures by popping out of the block.

ask people that make the core plugs what they're called, hell i dont even think it says freeze plugs in an engine manual.

Who ******* cares???

It's all semantics. Most true mechanics will call them freeze plugs. Call them whatever you would like.
