I have an 89 GTUs with a blown engine i picked this car up for $550 everything on this car is clean even the engine! but the engine is blown. I recently bought a a new To4b turbo and an 89 turbo ECU I'm looking at some new blow off valves and front mount intercoolers. There has to be alot of things i'm missing but what else will i need, and what must i do to turbo charge this engine after it is rebuilt?

Any help will be appreciated. Details Details Details Please!

Seppuku 03-22-2003 12:22 AM

first of all wrong section. Second you cant just strap a turbo to a na motor your going to need a turbo motor drivetrain wiring harness and ecu. basicly everything, you could go stand alone and save a lot of trouble with trying to find everything but it wont be cheap. Id quit looking at those other things right now.

turborotor 03-22-2003 12:25 AM

Dont' do that to a GTUs, they are rare. Fix the engine, sell it for more and buy a TII. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

89 Rag 03-22-2003 12:33 AM

don't, please dont. I'll give you a grand for the chassis as-is, use the cash and do what turborotor suggested.

Seppuku 03-22-2003 12:37 AM

yeah they got good points i didnt notice at first. Dont hack it up.

vosko 03-22-2003 09:38 AM

don't murder a GTUs!

TurboSmoke 03-22-2003 10:29 AM

please dont do it...its not worth it. ok lets put it this way. if you redo the motor in the GTUs you might get ie (just throwign **** out to give you an idea. what the diffrence would be) 4200. now remember i am just saying these prices just to give him a idea.

ok and with that 4200 you put 1600 for a new motor ok now bad. ok now converting it to a TII, motor, tranny, ecu, wire harness, driveshaft, rear axle. ect total with labor about 4500 then you could sell it for a max of about 4300 so you just lost 200.00 ok now please dont kill a GTUs.

Yea, I'll go with everyone else.. keep the GTUs the way it's suppose to be.

blacknsilver89GTUs 03-22-2003 01:44 PM

Hold up Guys i just got the car and i don't know much about it whats so precious about it? i got this turbo brand new for $400 and i just found the ECU so i figured i would through it on. I thought the tranny and suspension were the same as the turboII and i here most turboII owners would kill for the rear end a GTUs has.

rx7machine 03-22-2003 01:47 PM

I believe the GTUs is the sport version of the FC, or at least a special sport version that is hard to find.

blacknsilver89GTUs 03-22-2003 01:53 PM

The car is black i just put Bonez stage I brake pads and brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors and rebuilt the rear calipers. it has a and HKS intake and HKS dual super sport exhaust and 17in rims with brand new never been used kelley charger HP plus tires the paint is clean it has an A-spec strut bar and diamond cut headlights with Xenon bulbs if I rebuild will anyone buy it? Someone would buy it, GTUs are rare. Save all the stock **** too. I would buy it as-is if the price was right.

blacknsilver89GTUs 03-22-2003 01:58 PM

I'm going to buy and rebuilt engine from revolution rotary and swap them

when the cars done it will be damn near brand new.

Seppuku 03-22-2003 02:06 PM

thats good id buy it if i have the money when youre done with everything.

vosko 03-22-2003 02:19 PM

its a turbo suspension but the tranny is N/A and rear is N/A!

TurboSmoke 03-22-2003 02:21 PM

any pics?

blacknsilver89GTUs 03-22-2003 02:57 PM

Yea i'm workin' on that

TurboSmoke 03-22-2003 04:04 PM

ok cool what color is it?

pengaru 03-22-2003 04:25 PM

Put an LS1 in it!

A GTUs with an LS1 is more rare than one with a rotary https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Rotaryman88 03-22-2003 04:27 PM

Hey...the reason you say that the TurboII guys want your rear end is because it is a 4.3 unlike the 4.1 most other 2nd gens have...

GTUs have: 4.3 rear, T2 suspension, great interior.

But your tranny, driveshaft, axles are still NA...keep a hold on that rear end though..its worth a lot to people! I'd would almost venture to say that the GTUs is becoming more rare then a '91 T2...both FCs are hard to come by now!

Let the guy sup up his ride,

hey man put that turbo on,

hell if you have the money put some nos on-

there to...Just be careful on how you do

things, and don't scrap the car,

even if you do, consider your options,

not many people have a gtu,

so youl be havin fun in a rare car and even if you

smash it, someone will still buy it, don't be discouraged

just do what you gotta do................. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

It's your ride, just don't sell the damn thing,

be worth in the future,(think about it)

blacknsilver89GTUs 03-22-2003 11:20 PM

lets say i still sup up the ride, are the axles driveshaft and and tranny absolutely needed?

Just a question i'm not sure about the whole thing but i was still just wondering.

Seppuku 03-22-2003 11:41 PM

If your meaning to do a turbo swap then yes they are needed the na parts can not handle that much power.

relisys190 03-26-2003 08:37 AM

Mazda only produced around 110 GTUs FC3s Rx-7's Reason being they wanted to race in the gTUs race class

Almost every 'real' sports car company wants to race in that class. but rules state there has to be at least 110 Cars produced and sold... and they have to be the same cars sold: that will be on the track

this is why the GTUs Mazda Rx7 is and will always be one of the nicest FC's around

10th Edition turbo (White) 10,110 Sold

1989 GTUs (turbo tranny, 4:30 gears, Turbo suspension, Turbo Brakes, Turbo Clutch/flywheel/ no sunroof, no power anything : from what i understand. It's the bare bones go fast sportster (ONLY 110 EVER MADE) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png
