Is there anyway I can find out if my motor has ever been rebuilt or is a new engine, besides asking the guy I bought it from.

Mazda Remans will have a tag on the front cover under the CAS

Remans will also have stamped rotor housings above the "13B" if they were reused for a rebuild

if it has been rebuilt, what will they stamp on the rotor housings? I went and looked at mine and there are some numbers and letters on there. I am pretty sure it has been rebuilt since i have 115/125 compression with 129k on odometer.

from ?? to 97ish mazda put a stamp on the rotor housings, after that they have the little blue tag. also if the engine is painted, its a reman.

so you're looking for the motor being painted, stuff missing or put in wrong, sometimes theres nothing definative, just circumstancial evidence
