Finally dropped my first rebuild into my 91 vert, and everything is nearly set to try and start it up for the first time. A few smaller things: One of the hoses coming from the charcoal canister... I have no clue where it goes. It goes into a metal tube on the passenger side, and comes out on the driver side with a rubber hose... don't see where it links. I think it goes back to the gas tank some how. Another question - there is a round connector that looks like a ground towards the end of the wiring harness on driver side, sitting pretty low (hard to reach). Just a round connector that a bolt can go through. Is this a ground? Also, what does the connector look like for the oil pressure sensor? There is no spade on it, so I'm having trouble seeing how it is hooked up.

Now here's my big issue. The starter won't crank.. or crank properly that is. I turn the key and you can hear a slight ::uhh:: and whining noise. Starter is brand new as of today, battery is fully charged, and I currently have the EGI fuse pulled because I wasn't trying to start it yet.... just crank. I can turn the motor by hand. I'm figuring its getting some kind of power since it is making noise... maybe some other connection is bad? Ground? Please start shooting any suggestions, so that I can finally see this thing run. Thanks.

Souinds like a missing ground strap from the chassis to the engine, if the battery ground is not bolted to the engine or trans. Shine up the end of the strap and the junction where it bolts on the chassis.

I'm thinking that the cable I questioned above is the ground that should be bolted to the engine block (which it is not).... the guys at work said the same thing before I even came on here to check this post. I'll find out this evening if this is the issue, which I'm almost positive it is. Thanks.

ITS ALIVE! Started on first crank after installing the ground correctly. Let it run for about 30 min and took it for a short spin around the block (I really need to learn how to drive stick better). How long is the smoke supposed to pour out of the new engine? It was pretty white for quite a while... then calmed down... still smoking a little though. Main Cat has holes in it.. would that be the issue?
