what does a haltech do??? and should i get one in my fc? or are they for turbos?

Rxtasy 12-04-2001 07:51 AM

a haltech system is an engine management system that replaces the stock ECU and allows you to configure your car through a laptop www.haltech.com

it's for any car, not just turbos... 4, 6, 8, 12, 16 cylinders and rotaries....

bigtime 12-04-2001 07:53 AM

nice. how much does it cost. and does it improve performance any?

Rxtasy 12-04-2001 08:10 AM

mine, with everything, costed me $1,433, i ordered it strait through haltechs and i got them to give me shop prices... but it runs around 1600 or more with everything....

Yes it does improve performance, quite a bit from what i hear, you can control the amount of fuel you use, boost (on turbos), ignition, etc.....pretty much every aspect of the engine.... it is a job and then alot more installing it... but you will learn alot about your car by doing so (I have atleast)...

1Revvin7 12-04-2001 11:53 AM

well since my car isn't turbo I was planning on just getting my stock ecu chipped up by jets or either MD. Md said i could get +25 hp and 25+ lbs of TQ and 5 more mpg. for like $300....., and my rev limiter moved to 9G rpm.

Rxtasy 12-04-2001 05:39 PM

I'd think that whether or not your car is turbo it'd be a good idea to get the haltechs....it does so much more then just control boost.... and eventually I'm going to get a boost controller anyways and not use the haltechs

I think that if he plans on converting his car to turbo the Haltech will definitely be a better choice, but some of the chips for NA's are pretty good for the money. The Haltech may not do much better than them.

bigtime 12-05-2001 04:39 PM

but isnt the haltech that laptop thing??? i want it just for that cuz that is so badass people would be liek omg u have alaptop in ur car how flucking cool are u!!!

turborotor 12-05-2001 09:12 PM

The lap top is use to change and modify the fuel, ignitions map and many other little things.

The lap top does not operate the engine directly.

Haltech E6K $1145 + $150 for the terminated harness + $60 for a new OXY sensor.

You can also get a trim knob for $90

That's from RX7.com which is where I got mine.

I've got one on my car which is a Non-Turbo RX7. My goal is 200HP

I've removed a lot of crap.

Stock Exhaust Manifold, No Cats, No Air Pump, Sec Butterflys removed, No Air Meter Intake is fed directly through a 8" K&N Filter, Header with 2-1/2" Ehaust through a Bonz pipe and Walker Super TurboMuffler and a SuperTrapp at the end.

The Laptop is used to set the fuel map and ignition map. RX7.com even supplied me with a baseline map to use. Once the maps are set the laptop is no longer needed. Multiple maps can be loaded.

Here's a great map showing how it all hooks up:

Don't forget about the MAP sensor.

Did u say u don't have an air meter? do u mean mass air flow sensor? I didn't know u could remove that. on some cars the car won't run without that. correct me if im wrong https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

If you use a Haltech you won't need the air flow meter. The Haltech uses a MAP sensor to dtermine the engine load.

The Haltech E6K is a stand alone ECU. It will run just about any application and control both fuel and injection. It will also handle many different injectors, (IE: Not just MAZDA High Impedance types). It allows you to tune it with a laptop and also enables you to remove a huge amount of the factory parts on a cluttered motor.

What all parts get removed from the n/a & turboII?

You can remove all of the emmissions parts--air control valve AWS, etc.--as well as the solenoid rack. Those are the main things. It's also nice when you remove the air flow meter. That thing is a big restriction.
