ok. so my water pump is leaking. the grease monkey at express lube tells me i need to get either a new pump or new gaskets. they want 200 just for labor so i decide to do it myself.

i bought a gasket (the one the dude at westwood said i needed) and proceded to operate. i get the pump removed but in the process discover 4 little plastic lines the go around the lower radiator hose and under the mainfold. one of them is broken

so my questions are as follows:

what is the plastic line and what does it do?

can i tape it or should i buy a new one?

there are 2 gaskets (one for the impeller and one between the pump and the engine) i have the one for the impeller. can i use RTV for the one between the pump and the engine?

how well does JB weld werk b/c when i removed the pump a bracket holding a stud came off with it

i think your talking about the oil metering pump lines. i would start running some premix. you can buy those lines from mazda they are kind of a pain to change though. gotta take off the UIM

Yep, sounds like the oil metering lines. I just replaced all 4 on the AE. It was fun! Mazdatrix sells them, I think for cheaper than mazda does.

UIM = upper intake manifold

Ok so it will be cheaper and take about the same ammt of time if i get them from mazdatrix but i don't know if the gaskets for the lines are included?

ILUV what all did you buy when you did yours?

and since im supposed to go to werk tonight (pizza delivery) what can i do (i.e. like pluging the broken line and running premix)

finally after 7 hours of werk the water pump has been changed. the oil metering line that is broken has been lugged (electrical tape and a lighter) and the car is running (YEA)

as for the line if you look at the omp the line connects to the top left hole

oo

and is the shortest line does any know which one that is or should i just spend somemore cheese and buy all 4
