They broke into my car the other day and they must know about 7's cause
they knew how to knock out the stock alarm.(by breaking the little metal box under the glove box they pulled it and popped a few wires and cracked the thing open. I wouldn't care about the fact that I don't have the stock alarm or that i don't have a dome light anymore but now i don't get any power to my radio. I tried to reconnect the wires but that didn't work. Do you guys think it would work if I took the box from another 88? What would work? All I really want is to have power to my radio. everything else is not that important to me. Help please. |
If they just pulled wires something might have surged.
Check your fuses. If you have a volt meter/test light, check for power to the deck. I'm not sure if all those system run in series on a 7?? Let us know what's going on! |
Its Weird though cause when I plug the box in The lil light that comes one when a door is open turns on and the radio blinks like its a bout to turn on then the lights on the radio shut off again. I was hoping when i reconnected all the wires it would work. But i'm wondering if the curcuitry in the box got messed up when they broke it open. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

No one has any idea?
Just give me anything I could use. |
Does the factory deck(Which I'm assuming you have) come with a facorty security system?? I'm not sure, but if it does that woudl explain why it's shutting off.
Check your owners manual? Just another guess? |
No its a clarion. Head unit.
But I kept all the power wiring the same. I just spliced the factory wiring When I installed the radio. But I don't think it should make a diff. If i had factory or after market radio the problem would probably be the same cause i noticed it after the box was broken. Thanx for the suggestion though. |
try running all new power accessory and ground to your radio like if you were to hook up an amp, that should defenately do it

Accesory power off the ignition harness.
|
get the power(red) from the battery direct(always best)
and good ground ,,,just make your accessory wire with a toggle switch or cut into the ignition and splice from there |
Or that!! But if you run it off the accesory, you won't have to put it on a seperate switch.
|
Good tips guys thanx.
All I want is my music https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif Even though it is nice to drive to the tune of a rotary https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
What about just replacingthe box from another 88?
|
but you dont know 100% if thats the problem,
borrow someone elses and see if it works,,,,if it does, then jsut buy one, hope this helps |
just pocket one at the local junk yard https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Run a FUSED wire from a constant hot to the constant hot wire for the radio and see if it works then.
If it doesnt work then, run that same hot lead to the turn-on wire for the radio and see if it works, if it works then I would tap into the fuse block to a connection that turns on with the car because sooner or later you WILL leave the radio on and come out to a dead battery. Just be sure that ANY wire you run is fused. |
so what did they do/steal to/from your car?
|
sounds like nothing

i got my system stole out my 87 n/a a week after i moved into my apartment gotta love vegas!
|
my se7en has no radio, i took it out as it wasnt working, so im probably gonna just gut the whole interior (anyone has experience with this? like with cops and stuff?) carpet, rear seats, trim, door panels, and so on, i dont drive the car (driven 4 times this year) so it doesnt make comfort priority.
TIA Leo |
is it possible that your deck has some security feature on it that if power is immediately cut to it maybe it just doesnt work anymore... take it into a car audio shop and ask them to look at it
