If it's of any value, the compressed air idea was tried on a drag rail that is presently housed in Don Garlits' Drag Museum. The front portion of the rail contained the large air tank and pipes fed the charge to the intake of the rear mounted engine. Apparently there was a great deal of experimentation that never produced reasonable results. Hope this provides some insight.

I experminted with the idea on a mud truck of mine a couple years ago using a air compressor for air bags and a blow gun nozzle for you shop and after alot of expermenting and money the whole system was a bust. My truck had a carb and not FI but it may be worth a try I think the key would be feeding more fuel in relation to the amount of air put in to the intake. I rejeted my carb and ran it increadbly rich and found more power cam from the cam and trying to force uncontroled air was way to much of a hassle. If you can do it my hat is off to you.

I would use a air compressor and tank from a airbag set up to help regulate the amount and consistency of the air

[quote name='elitt89na' date='Apr 11 2005, 09:01 PM']I was wondering if any one had set up a system for using pre-bottled compressed air going into the throttle body in controled bursts? kinda like a blower but with out the electric fan.

Strap the bottle to the top of the car like a rocket for one BIG controled burst. I bet it would be just as effective.

I like it!

And everybody knows if you blow up a balloon, and then let it go, the air whooshes out the end and it goes like crazy!

It's bound to be the next big thing!

I can see it now.... Honda Civics everywhere with inflated balloons strapped to their roofs. And they're mad quik, yo!

Hahaha....my dad used to fab up little cars out of sheet metal and strap freon bottles inside of them. he'd pound a little nail in the backside, tie a string to the nail...pull the string and *FWOOOOOOOSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!* Ultra fast rocket car.

*this was before the days of OZONE DEPLETION and what not....you shouldn't replicate this stunt at home.

what if you got some pure oxygen? What percent of nitrous is oxygen? Something like 40%? Pure O2 would have an even better effect on the car (and even more dangerous=more fun)

I think you have a better chance getting a two stroke lawnmower engine to prespin your turbo charger than you do using compressed air to spin it up

Actually, it wouldnt.

N02 works because the oxygen is the fuel, and the nitrogen is what expands, driving the pistons or rotors.

If you have pure oxygen you will just burn super hot and there will be no air to expand.
