Ground Wires
After reading the article on the SUN ground wires I have been researching the advantages of additional grounds. I have read where many people would run a wire from the negative battery to the frame and another wire from the positive terminal straight to the 8mm nut on top of the alternator. The latter was to up the voltage a bit at idle. What do you guys think?
I was curious so I ran a 4 guage battery wire from the battery to the frame and put an 8 guage wire from the bellhousing cover bolt to the fire wall. So far everything seems pretty much the same.

yeah im doing that too, I got all new wires everywhere! 2-4guage baby! Sure can't hurt... I seen the article too, was it in a magazine, maybe a Turbo or import tuner? Well yes you can gain hp or voltage if the stock ones are ****....
Mazdas wiring sucks, I think we all know that. So running additional grounds, and beefing up all of the power cables will not not hurt at all. I highly doubt that you will notice any gains unless you car is heavily modified. I need to do this to the AE, It has a few electrical issues. I was planning on doing it when I was putting in the IC, but didn't have the $ to spend on the wires and stuff.
The article about the SUN performance wires was in TURBO and High Tech Performance. Its a cool little article. They ran tests on three different cars, (one was a 3rd gen) and each one had some signifigant hp gains with the rx-7 having the most. BUT, turbo had access to a dyno and experimented with different placements for the wires to illicit the best results. The rx-7 had something like an average of 7 hp gained with a peak of 15 or so at 6500. The wires come seperate or in a kit which costs around 100.
Some how I don't think my poor old N/A is going to see gains like that, but if I had the extra cash it might be cool.

I have done it to my 88 10th ann. TII. I made my own. NEVER pay that money for it. My batt. is in the cab....so I had to do a bit. more but, all & all it's a great mod.
Don't do it for a HP gain. I did it to help rid the 3800 rpm buck. The throt. got alot more crisp., better spark, EZ-er star ups, windows go up faster etc.
Just some of the main spots to hit are....engine block & intake manifold, boost sensor, ecu ground (under the upper intake mani.) , a ground wire cluster by the *T* coil on the strut tower and so on.
