Well, I'm just finishing up installing my Greddy FMIC. It was a bit of a pain in the ass, but it should be worth it. Here is a pic...

And here is a shot with the stock IC, a Sarion IC, and the Greddy...

Now, I've got a question or two. I have removed all of the hard lines, and solenoid valves, except for the one to the stock FPR. Is this ok? (I removed the twin scroll) And If I were to go with an aftermarket RRFPR that would eliminate the need for the FPR solenoid valve, right? Is there a way to remove the FPR solenoid valve, even while using the stock FPR?

Also, There was a vac line that goes into the engine right by where the oil filler neck goes into the block, can I just cap this? I will go take a pic of it here in a sec.

Seppuku 02-23-2003 04:35 PM

Your front mount looks nice! and that line your talking about does it connect to the oil fill neck if so its a vent line.

phinsup 02-23-2003 04:36 PM

Holy crap, that looks like a project and half.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-23-2003 05:12 PM

Yup cutting you car is fun! I'd recomend it.

Seppuku: Thanks, but that is not the nipple I'm talking about. Here are 3 pics of the nipple...

So, should I cap it?

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-23-2003 05:15 PM

Here is a side shot of the AE, and proof that it isn't always raining here in Seattle.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-23-2003 06:41 PM

Nope, what thread?

I figured you were going to say something about the wheels from the vert being on the AE. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Haha I was halfway/technicly correct.

its a vent line

vosko 02-23-2003 09:58 PM

carlos is correct

you can keep either the one on top by the oil filler or that one. i left the one on the block open. if you cap both you will get a shitload of smoke lol

j9fd3s 02-23-2003 10:52 PM

the knock sensor in the 86-88's lives on the center housing

mike

the pic of your speedo at almost 140, from last year.

Does the vert look terrible with the AE wheels on it or what?

isamu 02-24-2003 12:27 PM

Looks real good man! The Greddy one seems huge compared to the others.

I would have rather had a straight S5 :(

So for the vac line that goes to the stock FPR, can I just run the line right to a nipple on the intake manifold? Or does it have to run through the solenoid valve?

Last night I spent over 4 hours modding the front bumper, and sanding down all of the old paint. I am in the process of spraying it with white primer. I'm just going to use that untill I can afford the Corksport front end. I'll post pics of that later.

Rob: Yes the vert does look like **** with the AE wheels on it, but I have not driven the car in over 3 months so I don't care.

turborotor 02-24-2003 06:05 PM

It doens't have to run thru the solenoid. It is there only to assist when starting the car, the solenoid i mean.

cymfc3s 02-24-2003 07:07 PM

1Revvin7 02-24-2003 07:39 PM

Jerk_Racer 02-24-2003 08:21 PM

Nice intercooler. Very nice indeed. Hope to see it in person soon.

So that's what the hell that nipple is for. I never really knew that. I wished I had known that sooner to save me some grief. Last afternoon was the only time it's ever been an issue. I though the engine was blown when I found pools of oil under my car in the pit lane at autocross. I looked under the hood and saw way too much oil all over that area. I thought that either a seal went on the block or the oil pressure unit was leaking somehow. After seeing that there was still plenty of oil in the engine and it looked nice and then revving the piss out of the engine to see if the oil was pumping out with the added pressure. Nope nothing. Then I looked close and saw that nipple. That was where it looked like all the oil was dumping out after each run.

Well, it looks like it's time for a oil catch can. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif My car is finally getting to the point that it can corner hard enough to get oil out of that nipple. This was a first in three seasons of autocrossing. Plus it was the fastest, dryest course I've been on since I completed the suspension buildup, alignment, and decently sticky tires. Mmmm. lateral G forces. There's more to be had but too bad it'll never be as good as the fully prepared '95 Porsche 993 with slicks that I hitched a ride in. Damn, I wish I was rich right about now. That truly was a ride to remember. I've been in faster cars, I've been in cars that could grip like a mofo, but none that could touch this thing on a track. No wonder this car is usually posting some of the top times of the day. I was practically speechless afterwards. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-25-2003 09:37 PM

Here are a few more pics. The car wouldn't start, but the battery was almost dead, so the engine turned over about 2 times very slow and then the battery died. I tried a compression start, that didn't work either, but the car wasn't going very fast. So I had my friend jump the car, but that didn't work either, it just turned over kind of slow. So I pulled the UIM and TB back off, pulled the injectors, all of the O rings were in place, everything looked good. All of the vac lines were hooked up in the right spots, all nipples were capped. Anyway, here are the pics....

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-25-2003 11:24 PM

My car runs real cool, I was thinking of tossing it back in while I was installing the IC. I figure I'll see if it runs much warmer with the IC in, and if it does, I'll put it back in. I've had it out for over 6 months and never had any problems. I think it might have something to do with the shitty Seattle weather.

R1TT 02-26-2003 12:00 AM

Is that I/C core tube fin or bar plate?, just wondering

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-26-2003 05:10 AM

R1TT: I'm not too sure. I don't think that it is bar plate.

Well I got the car running, turns out it was way flooded. I need new injectors. The power gain was nice. I got pulled over within the first 20 min. I was out driving, but it was for no front plate, not speeding. The cop was cool, he let me go with no ticket. This Sunday I might take down to the drag strip. I'm hoping I'll be in the 13s.

Jerk_Racer 02-27-2003 02:50 AM

Easy 13's if you get good traction and a good launch. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-27-2003 03:11 AM

I hope, I gotta have some bragging rights at work.

vosko 02-27-2003 10:31 AM

we shall see how well you can drive https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-27-2003 01:32 PM

I need wider tires in the rear. I'm running Toyo Z rated 225/50/15s, and I loose grip really easy now.

sidewinderx7 02-27-2003 01:36 PM

245's fit nicely :-D You should try 255's! or 275!!!

cymfc3s 02-27-2003 01:39 PM

i squeezed 265's in the rear of my FC. Stock fenders. Thats the biggest you can go without having to roll the fenders out. 245 is a perfect fit IMO.
