ok so after 13 hours of driving back and forth bla bla bla i finally come home about 25 minutes ago. Park the truck hop in the car, woo it starts right up and purrs all nice.

Now i had checked the driveshaft and new there was substantial play in the u-joint.

me being an idiot decided not to disconnect thed riveshaft for the dolly ride home, probably because i could barely see it never mind remove it.

So anyway to the point. I put the car in gear and hear "clunk clunk clickityclunk clunk" and im like "**** thed riveshaft broke off, god damn it."

so i look under the car, and what do i see? the diff side of the left rear axle has popped out of the diff case, not all the way but i can pull it in and out, but cant get it all the way in.

Now i obviously know i broke something, didnt get a chance to take anything apart but:

A) What could be broken? the axle itself? the diff? meh?

B) Could it possibly not be broken but have fallen out? what holds it in place? it was towed on a dolly for 6-7hours straight with a 30 minute break every 2 hours or so.

C) its an 88 s4 n/a, stuff is normally cheap for them right?

D) who wants to send me free parts so i can at least get the satisfaction of driving it around?

You can normally get stuff cheap of Ebay for them. I have a driveshaft and transmission for an 86, same generation. But I'm in Wisconsin.

Mazda driveshafts from 83 on have non-replaceable U-joints. I think Mazdatrix has rebuildable "aftermarket" ones.

I have 2 open n/a diffs, 4 halfshafts available. Shipping would be a bitch though, that diff is heavy.

youve got a pm in about a minute banzai.

oh and so everyone else knows i got it in the air today took it apart, the stub axle's cir-clip must have let go or something, the axle came out of the teeth and then the teeth of the axle rode on the outside of the teeth of the diff. AKA my diff and axle are both shot, the teeth are ground down a ton. and i got a better look at the u-joints, and god damn is that ujoint shot.
