Finally got my damn electric fan put in. I also picked up an optima battery, and put that in. No more voltage problems  I didn't notice much of a difference with the electric fan vs. the stock one. But then I have only put about 10 - 15 miles on my car since I put it on, and it has been too wet here to tell.

13BAce 12-17-2001 10:09 PM

Which fan did you use?

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-17-2001 10:57 PM

It is a Hayden 16" 1900 cfm fan. I picked it up at my local auto parts store (Pep Boys). It was about $85. It makes my engine bay look so much more spacious. Once you get all the bull **** pulled off the engine it looks so tiny. :newlaugh:

Does the engine run cool with it?

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-18-2001 12:29 AM

I have not driven the car much since I put it in. As far as I can tell it isn't running hot  I'll figure that out over the next week. The fan covers up 3/4 of my radiator, and moves plenty of air. At first they tried to sell me a 14", but I told them to give me the biggest one that they had.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-18-2001 12:35 AM

Oops! I was wrong, it is a 1700 cfm fan.

Just keep an eye on your temps.

I would go with at least 2500-3000 cfm, but some people have had good luck with going as low as 1500. I've tried e-fans on my car, and they never did the job.

I was thinking of going electric also. With all of the horror stories I have heard about Mazda's overheating it has me thinking twice.

I have no fan shrod though which is why I thought maybe electric would be better, plus I like the idea of being able to leave the fan on to remove any heat soak in my engine bay.

The stock clutch fan will pull more air than any electric, but if your cooling system is up to par an electric fan can be a nice mod. Why don't you just get a shroud?

This is y im going with the Mairah electric fan conversion, its got everything, and a custom fan shroud that covers up all that nasty stuff inbetween the headlights. I know its $$$, but o well, i have heard all these horror stories to so im keepin it safe... And its custom for 7, so u know its good. Here's a couple pics from 3rotors car :sigh:

13BAce 12-18-2001 10:16 PM

Yeah, that setup is pretty nice, but I've heard that it's just a black magic fan with a modified shroud.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-18-2001 10:16 PM

Just keep an eye on your temps.
I have been. It hasn't gone over 1/3 of the way up on the temp guage. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png But then I live in Seattle, the last few days the high temp has only been around 45 - 50 degrees. It is in the summer I'm worried about. I take a lot of road trips out to eastern Washington, and it is not uncommon to get up to 100 degrees there. So only time will tell.

How much is the Mairah fan set up cost?

Let me know how it works out. The Mariah setup is about $600!!!

Yeah, that's alot for a fan.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-18-2001 11:51 PM

Yep. That is insane! that would buy 7 of the fans I got. I have a lot better things to spend my $600 on.

I think it's just a flex-a-lite black magic fan with a modified shroud. You can buy the fan for $190 and just use some fibergalss to make the shroud cover the entire radiator.

1Revvin7 12-19-2001 11:14 AM

yea mariah is pretty expensive with everything. I was going to see if i could just order the shroud and get a good electric fan...

Check out this fan:

http://www.vintageair.com/images/MonsterFan.GIF

You can check it out at http://www.vintageair.com/accessories/page66.htm .

It supposedly flows more than 3700 cfm! If I get an electric fan again it's what I'll buy.

dac 12-19-2001 08:34 PM

CFM is only 1/2 of the picture.... Noise!

I don't want to hear my fan over my motor...

You shouldn't need the shroud from Mariah.

That fan is a 18" fan, I don't think it will fit on the fc radiator. My fan is a 16" and I only have about a half an inch of radiator showing on the top and bottom side of the fan.

The stock radiator core is about 19"x22"...I think.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-19-2001 11:00 PM

Is the radiator larger on the TII? Because I measured mine and it is 17" tall, I didn't measure the width though.

They're all the same. I haven't measured one in a while.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-20-2001 01:08 AM

I measured mine not to long ago, it was 17"

1Revvin7 12-20-2001 07:41 AM

I knew it sounded too good to be true. Most e fans i found don't pull that much, except mariah's . And most e fans don't have shroud=hot.
