Alright, I was originaly planning on buying an FD, however after looking at the intial purchase price (~16K) plus all the reliability mods (~2k) plus the fact that it would have to function as a daily driver. Oh yeah and I'm trying to pay for school at the same time, it was then that I realized this was a project better suited for sometime in the future.



In lieu of these developments, I was wondering what I could expect an FC in decent shape would cost (turbo or n/a) plus what I should spend on it to get changed once I get the car (basic things).



Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You could get a decent tuirbo II for 3k. Like nice body, decent mileage. I'd first get and Full exhaust like the racing beat, FCD, fuel pump, and port the wastegate. That'll make your car a little more reliable if you're are not making too much more boost than stock. Go to fc3s-pro.com think it is. It has a lot of info that would be helpful to you.

depends what year u are looking for they car run anywhere between 1500 - 6000 for a decent one. if u want a reliable rotary go with an n/a. wont be as fast as a TII but they do make great autox cars

The FCD stands for Fuel Cut Defender, is a device that stops the stock ECU from cutting fuel to the rear rotor when the boost exceeds a preset boost level, FC Rx-7's are restricted to 8.6 pounds of boost, that is, what I gathered. How it does that is by tricking your car into thinking its boosting less than it actually is. But from what I have read on this forum as well as other forums dedicated to Rx-7's an FCD should come "AFTER" you upgrade your fuel system. Putting one on before you have done so can do more harm than good.



FCD's are a sub 100$ Item around 80$ or so, as I recall I think on teamfc3s.org there is a technical article on how to make your own. The fuel pump is also around 80$ or so you can find a Walbro 255lph kit on ebay, they are always there. As far as the racing beat exhaust system, depending on the emmisions where you live (if you care ) you can either get a turbo back or a cat back system. the turbo back kit replaces everything from the turbo to the mufflers, where the catback is from the cat and back. the cat back is about 600$ and the Turbo back is about 800$.



If you get a non turbo fc the cat back system is about 580$ and you wouldn't have to worry about the FCD.

I use my tII as a daily driver. It's kind of a bitch b/c the suspension is soooo stiff but it's still fun. As long as you allow the turbo to cool off before you shut it off, change the oil frequently, and follow a few other procedures you shouldn't have too many problems using a TII as a daily driver.



I deliver pizzas in mine. Sucks for the gas but it makes it one hell of a job. And i make pretty good money.

So, what I am getting is that for less than 5k I can have a fairly decent turbo II and do all the necessary reliability mods?



If so, then I am very excited as that would be well in my price range.

A lot of reliability mods are really cheap some of them free. With 5k you can get a TII that does low 13s. Do you plan on doing the work yourself?

Yeah, I plan on doing the work myself (at least what I can) some things like porting I think I could learn (I have machining experience) but I would rather not experiment on some rotor housings that I would have to replace.



BTW, I've been looking at autotrader and I can't find any decent tII's for less 5k. Are people just asking way more than they expect to get or what?
