is there any major problems dropping in a 91 TII into 88 GXL??

thanx alot

RotaryBoy88 11-17-2001 01:09 AM

Yeah I'd like to know this to cause im getting a 91 T II j-spec in my 88 SE. I was just told I"d need a TII ecu and a partial wiring loom for emisions ??? Screw emisions https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/devil.gif

Rxtasy 11-17-2001 07:26 AM

of what i know of there isn't much difference between the two shells... you will need an ecu, if you can't get one I'd suggest the haltechs e6k.... but other then that there isn't much difference other then boost guage, turbos have 5 lug wheels instead of 4 lugs, and the hood, which you would prolly consider getting unless you get a front mounted intercooler....

vosko 11-17-2001 09:25 AM

you would want to swap drivetrain eg, trans, diff, axles, driveshaft and suspension to handle the power from the t2 engine. no point in doing all that work and blowing the tranny or diff etc

RotaryBoy88 11-17-2001 11:00 AM

Now with the e6k would I need to get a factory ecu??

vosko 11-17-2001 01:21 PM

with haltech you don't need factory ecu. e6k comes with new wiring harness, etc

Rotaryman88 11-22-2001 08:41 PM

I'm putting a '91 GTX motor in my '88 SE...here's a list of the turbo II parts you'll need to get and add:

*Tranny

*ECU

*Mass airflow sensor

*Driveshaft(depends, sometimes they can hook up)

*You'll need an FCD too probably(I did)

*Hood(unless your doing a FMIC)

*and turbo exhaust

That should at least get the car running..other stuff you could add, but don't need to:

*Turbo II coils

*LSD(if you don't have it)

*Boost gauges

You don't really need to worry about the suspension or brakes, all Rx7s have great factory setups...need more info, just say so...lol, trust me if your going to do this yourself, you'll want to make sure you have wiring diragrams, a manual, and a helper...DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ALONE, lol.

vosko 11-22-2001 09:03 PM

you'll need a fuel pump other than that seem to have everything.

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:17 PM

thanx guys, i have the entire car (it was hit by a transport truck) so should it yeild everything??? :yinyang:

vosko 11-22-2001 09:18 PM

WOW, you are very lucky. if you have the whole car then obviously you have everything needed. as long as it wasn't damaged in the accident. i would swap EVERYTHING! if you can.

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:22 PM

the driveshaft and everything is in good shape... is there any parts that should be replaced, do to age or over worked??

vosko 11-22-2001 09:26 PM

while the whole thing is apart i would send out the injectors to www.rceng.com for cleaning. how many miles on the car ? if the engine still turns over now would be a good time to do a compression test. so you don't put in a dying engine

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:28 PM

well how long/expensive is that place??

and its got 135000Km on it!

i was also thinking of a rebuild on it and just run the NA until its done...

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:36 PM

what size injectors are on the TII???

Rotaryman88 11-22-2001 09:38 PM

Well, RC engineering I think has the same turnaround time as most other places...they'll have the injectors back to you in about 2 or 3 days from when they receive them. If you have the entire car, you'll have everything. If you do go w/ the rebuild, why don't you just save money on the rebuild and fix the T2? You'll have 2 rx7s then https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

vosko 11-22-2001 09:40 PM

my km to miles is not too great but i think 135k km is about 80k miles ?? if it is i would suggest pulling the block out and rebuilding it while you still have a car to drive. its better to build the car correctly the first time and not worry about how long the engine is gonna last. T2's have four 550cc injectors. if you wanted to you can put in 720cc secondaries and get an apexi s-afc to control them.

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:46 PM

beacuse i got it checked out!! 5500 to 6000 dollars to straighten the frame and do the body work, that aint with nice paint...

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:48 PM

kool thanx!!!

whats the best turbo replacement for a TII??

light to light and ******* around with wacked civics and integras (really popular up here) ya its about 82K

vosko 11-22-2001 09:51 PM

if you want to upgrade the turbo. the hks T04E kit is very nice. its a street turbo and will be very fun and FAST. you would also want to get the HKS fmic to go along with it. all i can say is when dealing with body work or whole drivetrain swaps, you want to do everything correctly the first time. how bad and where was the car hit ?? i mean if you have enough time you can fix the body yourself and just get a paint job later.

88rx7 11-22-2001 09:55 PM

rear passenger side and if i do fix it ill do somthing crazy to it, probly fully out drifting car or something like that

vosko 11-22-2001 10:00 PM

actually. there was a T2 over here that got hit in the same spot. they just cut out the part and welded in another one from another T2. i would try to become best friends with someone that owns or works at a body shop

88rx7 11-22-2001 10:12 PM

well i am but the doors fucked (and they aint cheap up here) and the big one will be straighting the frame

vosko 11-22-2001 10:17 PM

my friend carlos did the swap you want to except with 88 drivetrain to 88 car. it was alot of work but if your 88 has a perfect body it will work out well. might want to also invest in a haltech since you will be rewiring the entire car anyway. if you want to talk to him i can get you his email address.

88rx7 11-22-2001 10:19 PM

yeah thats great, i was thinking of putting in a Jim Wolfe ECU as well but thats 2200 bux

vosko 11-22-2001 10:22 PM

go haltech. carlos' car runs great with it. he ran a 13.7@99.99 with just full exhaust and sort of upgraded turbo https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png i am not sure if he is on the forum yet. i emailed him to join up if he didn't already https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

88rx7 11-22-2001 10:22 PM

ive done alot of work to the body, tottaly redone with custom paint... so i want it to go fast now... and thinking of the new bomex body kit, but gotta save bout 5000 for it thought(paint, molding it into the car[cleaner effect])

88rx7 11-22-2001 10:23 PM

alright thanx

vosko 11-22-2001 10:24 PM

if that is the case screw the T2 chassis. strip it and throw everything into your pretty car. it can be done but be prepared it will take alot of work and time. you will have go and show https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

88rx7 11-22-2001 10:26 PM

thats what i want... when i get a digital camra ill post pix of it

vosko 11-22-2001 10:28 PM
